Clinical EFT has been officially integrated into a Master’s degree program in psychotherapy within a faculty of medicine in Africa — at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal. This program was developed by our French colleague, Jean-Michel Gurret, his wife Agnès Bévierre, Prof. Papa Lamine Faye and Prof. Jean Augustin Diégane Tine.

This milestone marks a turning point in the global history of tapping-based therapies. Energy psychology methods such as EFT are now institutionally recognized, not only as complementary approaches, but also as potentially foundational tools for mental health care in low-resource countries.

Very useful to know. And if you have these reactions, they can be worked on with EFT, of course 😊

I'm really glad that EFT is indicated as one of them. A study carried out by Dr Peta Stapleton from Bond University in Australia showed that only an hour of EFT managed to decrease the production of cortisol - the stress hormone - by 43%.

Over 8 million people in the UK live with an anxiety disorder.

🎧 The 4th Wave in Therapy Podcast is out now - all of season 1

Naomi Janzen - Overcoming Depression with Tapping

Naomi shares her personal journey of discovering EFT and how it transformed her life. She initially dismissed tapping as ridiculous but later turned to it during a period of severe depression. After just a week of tapping for two hours a day, she experienced a profound shift and a sense of joy and lightness. Naomi emphasizes the importance of addressing deep issues in the body that talk therapy alone could not reach. She also highlights the individual nature of healing and the need for self-tapping to reinforce the work done in sessions. Naomi's story serves as an inspiration for others seeking healing through EFT.

Naomi Janzen is an Accredited Expert Clinical EFT Practitioner for Evidence Based EFT and Master Trainer for EFT International, as well as the writer and co-producer of the documentary The Science of Tapping and the creator of the Clarity Tapping method and author of forthcoming books Tapping Out of Depression (Even When You Barely Care Enough to Try) and Clarity Tapping - A New Way Backward. She is the creator of the Remindfulness app, named a Top 10 Mindfulness App by Positive Psychology and from 2014 to 2019 she co-hosted One Mind Live, a weekly live online worldwide meditation broadcast - now an Apple podcast. A screenwriter for over 25 years before becoming an EFT practitioner, she uses her storyteller’s sensibility to convey the principles of her twin passions, EFT and mindfulness, to her clients, trainees and as she puts it “anyone who will listen.”

Another great article on how EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) can help with chronic pain. The article was published in the Physicians Weekly online magazine and the study of the randomised clinical trial has been published on the European Journal of Pain.
If you are interested or know anyone who suffers from chronic pain who would be interested to alleviate their pain, please get in touch with me or visit my website East Sussex EFT website.
Thank you!

Background
Chronic pain represents a major global healthcare crisis, and current treatments are limited in effectiveness and safety. Emotional freedom techniques (EFTs) show promise as a potential psychological treatment.

Methods
The current study investigated the effect of a randomized clinical trial of EFT for chronic pain in a sample of 147 adult chronic pain sufferers (89.9% female; mean 54.63 years). Participants engaged in a 6-week EFT programme (either online self-paced or in-person).

Results
The per-protocol analysis indicated pain severity and interference scores were significantly lower at the end of treatment for the EFT group compared to waitlist, and these were sustained at follow-up. There were no differences between the in-person or self-paced programmes at follow-up for pain severity and interference. Somatic symptoms were significantly lower after EFT, although no further differences at follow-up. Quality of life scores were significantly higher after EFT, which were sustained at follow-up, and no differences between two styles of programme. No significant effects were found for anxiety, depression, happiness or satisfaction with life across the 6-week programmes for either style of delivery or at follow-up. These are discussed in terms of clinical score meanings. Intent-to-treat analysis was consistent with the per-protocol analyses. Limitations of the study are identified and future directions are discussed.

Conclusions
Findings offer early promise for EFT as a potentially effective pain management strategy, as well as support for online intervention without compromising treatment outcomes.
