"During your follicular phase, oestrogen is HIGH β¨ Lift heavy and push your HIIT! In your luteal phase there's more progesterone π your body craves REST and GENTLENESS. keep your feminine cyclical energy away from intensity. Stretching and long walks."
Here we could add a graph with all the pretty lines and numbers. π
It'd all look professional. Empowering.
But it's all complete BS
Great on socials and infographics, but still π© advice
Here's what the research actually says π
Hormones change through your cycle. Obvs.
But the impact this has on your symptoms/training is vastly different for every woman. Also obvs.
Anyone who's ever talked to her friends about their cycle will know we're all so different
For most women, their cycles don't have a significant impact on their training. They definitely don't need to avoid intensity 2 weeks a month π€¦ββοΈ
Some women notice significant strength or intensity changes. But even for them, there's no
universal "do this day 1-16, do that from ovulation" protocol that works for everyone
Nope. Doesn't exist.
Interesting theory but clearly disproven by actual research.
*The Wise Mamas Method*
Before you train each day, check in with yourself - how are you feeling? How did you sleep? Are you feeling crampy and meh, or have you got some serious rage to unleash (cycles vary π
)? Where's your battery at?
Adjust your training effort to what's reasonable and wise for today, with what you've got. Keep showing up. Stay consistent.
Over time you will learn your patterns. You will anticipate some things. But as long as you check in every session and train for your needs, you'll be getting the best results. 1M times better than following the advice of some confused influencer and their cute Canva chart π
We don't follow trends. We follow research and our own experience on the gym floor every day.
