St Clare Hospice is a local charity and each year we care for hundreds of people across West Essex and the East Hertfordshire border.

We provide free, compassionate care and support to adults with life-limiting illnesses, their families and carers.

You're simply tree-mendous!🎄 Our 2026 Christmas Tree Collection raised over an incredible £26,500 for hospice care, and recycled 1,420 trees!

£26,500 could help cover the cost of running our 24 Hour Advice Line for 53 days and nights, where nursing staff are on hand day and night to relieve worries and give expert advice.

Your kindness helps St Clare Hospice continue to care for local families - and makes our community a little greener. Thank you 💚

"I'm so pleased to have been referred to St Clare. It's comforting to know someone is always there if I need them."

Margaret, 82, had heart failure and a rare form of blood cancer. She was being cared for by St Clare Hospice at home - as home was a special and important place for her.

"From the moment I walked in to this house, it had such a lovely feel," she said.

In the last months of her life, Margaret chose to stop active treatment and focus on comfort and peace.

"I know it won't be long now, and I've had to think about where I want to be when the end comes. I'm so pleased to have been referred to St Clare. It's comforting to know someone is always there if I need them."

Margaret received regular visited from Sam, a St Clare Clinical Nurse Specialist, and care from the Patient and Family Support Service.

"Sam is so knowledgeable, and the advice about my medication has been incredibly helpful."

With your help, our Clinical Nurse Specialists can provide expert care, advice and reassurance to people facing life-limiting illnesses across West Essex and the borders of East Hertfordshire. People like Margaret.

Meet Ula - the 8-year-old beekeeper creating a buzz for St Clare Hospice! 🍯

What started as a family hobby in 2022 has turned into a sweet success. Ula now sells her own honey to raise funds for St Clare - and she's already raised over £2,000! 👏

Ula's dad, Barry, shared how the idea began: 'The idea of selling our own honey came about because we always had plenty left over for family and friends. When we began selling honey, we thought it would be nice to donate the money raised to a local charity and chose St Clare Hospice. We were familiar with the charity already because Ula’s school, Coopersale Hall, has supported them in the past.'

Reflecting on her fundraising, Ula shared: 'Mum and Dad have always supported me in this journey, and encourage me to share with our community, friends, and family about how we care for beers and why they're so important in nature. It's been really rewarding counting the money we've raised and handing it over to the amazing team at St Clare Hospice!'

Every jar sold helps St Clare Hospice created comforting spaces, therapeutic activities, and special moments for families when they need it most.

Who knew fundraising could be this sweet? Big or small, every effort counts - and Ula proves it! 💛

'I'm a thrill seeker and have wanted to do something for the hospice that would truly push myself to the limit both physically and mentally.' ⛷️

Shaun Weston, Managing Director of British Offsite Ltd, is embarking on The Last Degree Challenge - a seven-day, 100km ski expedition across one of the harshest environments on Earth, pushing towards the South Pole in aid of St Clare Hospice.

Shaun said: 'I’m a thrill seeker and have wanted to do something for the hospice that would truly push myself to the limit both physically and mentally. It’ll be a journey of hardship and dedication, and from training to fundraising, the team at British Offsite and I are committed to get the job done.'

But Shaun's support for St Clare goes far beyond this challenge. Throughout 2025, he has raised over £100,000 through events including a family fun walk, charity golf day, boxing spar-a-thon, gala dinner, and even hiking the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

This incredible total could fund an entire month of specialist Therapy Team care - physiotherapy and occupational therapy that helps people rebuild strength, independence, and confidence during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives.

About St Clare Hospice

St Clare Hospice is a charity providing specialist palliative care to improve the lives of people living with a terminal or life-limiting illness in West Essex and East Hertfordshire, including Bishop’s Stortford and Sawbridgeworth.

Our approach to care gives patients, their families and carers, the confidence to cope so that, together, they can enjoy the best possible quality of life, whether at home or in the Hospice.

With limited NHS funding, we need to raise around 60% of our costs each year to provide our vital services; this year our costs were £4.8m and we forecast this will rise to over £5m next year.

We therefore rely on our local community to help us raise money each year so we can continue being there for local families facing one of the most difficult journeys in life.
