Please support members of the British Acupuncture like myself. Sadly at the moment Acupuncture isn’t regulated in the UK. However, members of the British Acupuncture council are degree qualified, and as such are self regulated through this voluntary governing body. Be sure to ask your practitioner if they’re a member. ☺️

Clinical guidelines provide recommendations to healthcare professionals regarding the different options for a particular condition.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and The Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) produce clinical guidelines in the UK.

A systematic review is conducted to gather all the evidence. Clinical guidelines will often base their recommendations not just on whether a therapy is effective but also on a cost-benefit analysis.

Acupuncture is currently included in the following clinical guidelines:
▫️ Headaches in over 12s: diagnosis and management (NICE CG150)
▫️ Chronic pain (primary and secondary) in over 16s (NICE CG193)
▫️ Chronic pain (SIGN 136) management for lower back pain and osteoarthritis

Dear Friends and followers, it's been a while since I posted, and much has happened post covid! Just a little reminder as to my treatments, and specialities. After qualifying back in 2010, in Chinese medicine, sports therapies and herbal medicine, I have noticed a greater demand for pain management, lifestyle and dietary advice. I feel there is an increase in awareness for a lot of people, as it has become increasingly difficult to access the NHS path to essential treatments, especially pain management. It's often a case of "How can I help myself?". Many are going to the gym more, or online, following videos for Pilates and yoga. This is great, but what can you do when something doesn't quite feel right, or you have a pain or ni**le that just isn't going away? It is always a great idea to leave them, as they can often get worse, and will may become even more debilitating. This is hopefully where I can help.
In the initial consultation, I take full medical history, medication, previous ailments, and lifestyle. Based on this thorough consultation, I apply a treatment protocol individually suited to your condition. I often recommend 2-4 treatments initially, as in my experience, if you haven't felt some relief by then, further investigations such as x-ray or MRI may be the next stage to identify the problem. If you've had a pain or ache, chronic or acute, that just isn't going away, please get in touch. You have everything to gain. Thanks for taking the time, and I hope I can help in the future. Nigel Cornwell MBAac. Member of the British Acupuncture Council, and professional standards authority.

As a qualified herbalist, I only treat using plant based medicine. It’s a rotten time of year for some at the moment, with lots of viruses, and bugs going around so close to Christmas. This is a transition time, as our immune systems re-learn to fight seasonal bugs, as we’ve been using masks and sanitising for nearly 3 years, our natural immunity hasn’t been updated.
If I can help with some advice…
If you have a cold (running nose with clear mucus, and a cough), my advice is to get the body to sweat it out. The Chinese way is to purge the cold out by inducing sweating. You can do this internally with lots of hot drinks, typically with ginger and honey. Also wrap up in extra layers at night, again to “sweat it out”.
If however, you have lots of green/yellow phlegm which is hard to expectorate, I recommend dried orange or tangerine skin which helps bind with the phlegm. Just small bits a time and chew them. If you have phlegm, avoid bananas and dairy products which all induce more phlegm.
If you’d like some free advice on any of your ailments, please drop me a message 😁

Synergy Health Centre: we’ve been based in the heart of Hatfield Peverel for 12 years, but have you you ever wondered what we actually offer? I’m Nigel Cornwell, owner and practitioner.
My degree is in Chinese medicine, offering Acupuncture for an array of ailments, pain management, fertility, menopause, anxiety, IBS and much more. I’m also qualified in sports and deep tissue massage therapy treating muscular pain, and accident or post-surgical rehabilitation. I offer a hands-on treatment, with initial treatment being typically 55 minutes, and follow up treatments being typically 40 minutes. I assess your lifestyle, diet and nutrition, and highlight any other outside influences. Acknowledged by most private health insurance companies, I’m a member of the British Acupuncture council, where a minimum of 3 years training and degree qualification is necessary. Pain management therapy also often includes the use of a TENS machine, and heat therapy. For those that may not like the idea of needles, cupping and deep tissue massage are a great alternative. In addition, we also have an in-house Hypnotherapist, and Chiropodist podiatrist. If you think we can help, please send us a message, or leave a message on our answerphone. Many thanks 😊
