Not everybody is asleep peacefully tonight.

Some people are trying to rebuild after addiction.
Some are battling loneliness.
Some are carrying trauma, grief, poor mental health, or the weight of starting over.

Sometimes the first step is not a solution.

It is simply having somewhere safe to breathe again.

That is what supported housing can mean.

At First People Housing, we support men with housing, wellbeing, routine, purpose, and pathways forward, because rebuilding a life takes more than four walls.

Support does not stop at housing.

At First People Housing, we believe rebuilding a life takes more than providing someone with a room.

That is why projects linked with The Hideout Collective are such an important part of the journey for many of the men we support.

From restoring boats and improving community spaces, to working on the Root & Rise allotment project, these opportunities help men rebuild:
• routine
• confidence
• practical skills
• purpose
• and connection with others

For many, it is the first time in a long time they have felt part of something positive again.

Because recovery is not just about where someone stays.
It is about where they go next.

Every day there is another headline.
Another opinion.
Another crisis.
Another thing young people are expected to process.

Our latest blog explores the growing concerns around youth mental health in Britain and asks an important question:

Are we doing enough to support young people, or are we simply telling them to cope harder?

From social media pressure and housing insecurity to anxiety, employment struggles and the debate around diagnosis, this is a conversation that affects far more people than we often realise.

One thing should remain clear:

People should never feel discouraged from speaking up or asking for help.

ROOT & RISE UPDATE 🌱

Projects like Root & Rise are exactly why The Hideout Collective was created.

Alongside First People Housing, The Hideout Collective gives many of the men we support the opportunity to build confidence, routine, friendships and practical skills through real projects with real purpose.

Pictured here are Dumitru, Carl and Dave alongside Mark, Director of Operations & Services, at the Root & Rise allotment project in Hatfield.

What started as an empty space is becoming something much bigger than an allotment. It’s becoming a place where people can reconnect, rebuild and move forward.

Real work. Real skills. Real second chances.

⚽ Community, collaboration, and the power of people coming together.

Words from our Director of Partnerships, Kieran Ruane:

“Stepping into my role as Director of Partnerships, I’ve been reminded just how powerful simple collaboration can be.

A simple conversation a few weeks ago with the then Mayor, Lynn Chesterman, during her visit to our office led to a connection with John and Russell from Sporting Inspirations

And now what started with a small group has grown into something genuinely meaningful.

Each week, we bring together young men from a wide range of backgrounds for just one hour to kick a ball around, clear their heads, and simply be present.

In that time, differences fall away. Labels don’t matter. For 60 minutes, they share the same space, the same purpose, and the same sense of belonging.

It’s a small thing on the surface, but the impact is real and it’s heartwarming to witness.

That’s what collaboration is all about. When we come together with a shared goal, even the simplest ideas can create meaningful change. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be collective.

If we continue to work together, support one another, and stay focused on a common outcome, there’s no limit to what we all can achieve.”

At First People Housing, we know that rebuilding a life often takes more than just giving someone a room.

Some people need stability.
Some need counselling.
Some need support around relationships, trauma or behaviour.
Some need purpose, routine and a reason to believe things can still improve.

That’s why we work alongside;
The Empower Project,
Clarity Coaching & Counselling and
The Hideout Collective.

Different support. One shared goal.

Helping people rebuild their lives.

Not every man who comes through our doors believes things can improve.

Many arrive carrying years of trauma, homelessness, addiction, isolation, offending histories, poor mental health, or simply the feeling that life has stopped moving forward.

At First People Housing, we provide more than just a room.

We help men rebuild structure, routine, confidence and stability through supported accommodation, guidance, accountability, wellbeing support, and opportunities to reconnect with life again.

Sometimes support starts with something simple:
someone believing they are still capable of rebuilding.

That’s what First People is here for.
