Tony Robbins taught me the “identity theory” for why most people never reach their goals… and it changed my entire perspective on building new habits. 💡
Most people approach goals like this:
“I need more discipline.”
“I need better motivation.”
“I need to try harder.”
Identity theory flips the order:
You don’t become the person after you hit the goal…
You hit the goal when you start acting like the person now.
Here’s the shift that creates everything:
Old way: “I’m trying to work out.”
Identity way: “I’m someone who trains.”
Old way: “I’m trying to be consistent.”
Identity way: “I’m someone who follows through.”
Old way: “I’m trying to eat better.”
Identity way: “I’m someone who keeps promises to my body.”
And the secret most people miss:
Your identity isn’t built by big breakthroughs.
It’s built by small proof.
Every time you do the thing (even for 5 minutes), you cast a vote for that identity.
Every time you don’t, you cast a vote for the old story.
So if you’re setting goals for 2026, don’t ask:
“What do I want to achieve?”
Ask:
“Who do I want to be?”
…and what would that person do today, in a way that feels grounded and sustainable?
Start there.
Build proof.
Let results follow.
Follow along if you’re ready to build your 2026 goals from identity - not pressure. 🤍
