Four months into our annual fitness challenge – The BIG Walk – and we find ourselves hitting a huge step count.

Together, staff and service users at Nouvita have tracked an impressive 12,169,373 steps so far this year, which is just over an incredible distance of 6,000 miles!

Walking in a straight-line East, will take you from our Head Office in Hatfield, to Tokyo in Japan! We’d have traversed mainland Europe, Russia and Asia. With still 8 months left of this challenge, we’re

We’re proud of this achievement so far, and with summer ahead of us, we’re looking forward to seeing the distance increase.

Our BIG Walk annual fitness challenge is in support of raising funds for our chosen charity – Wooden Spoon Charity, which funds life-changing projects across the UK and Ireland to support children and young people with disabilities or facing disadvantage. Any amount helps and will be greatly received. You can donate here:

In our latest article, we delve into what trauma-informed care really means in practice. From understanding the impact of life experiences to shaping more compassionate, personalised treatment, it’s an approach that puts people, not diagnoses, at the centre.

At Baldock Manor Hospital, trauma-informed care is embedded across our PICU and acute wards, helping to create safe, structured environments that support recovery and reduce distress. With specialist teams and a person-centred approach, care is designed around the individual and their experiences, not just their symptoms.

A sunny afternoon, good food and great company made for a memorable St George’s Day at Howe Dell Manor and The Coach House.

Following a request at a recent community meeting, residents and staff came together to enjoy a BBQ in the garden. It was a real team effort, with everyone making the most of the sunshine and relaxed atmosphere – with one of our residents taking on the role of DJ, providing the soundtrack for the afternoon and keeping spirits high.

Moments like this highlight the importance of listening to residents and creating opportunities that bring people together. It was a lovely way to spend time outdoors, share a meal and enjoy each other’s company.

Hearing directly from those at the very start of their careers offers a powerful insight into the culture within our services.

Following his placement at Howe Dell Manor, student nurse Emmanuel shared his experience of learning and working alongside the team:
“I was warmly welcomed and made to feel part of the team. This sense of belonging created a safe and supportive space where I could develop my skills, ask questions, and build my confidence.”

Throughout his time with us, Emmanuel highlighted the impact of strong leadership and mentorship on his development:
“Your guidance and welcoming approach made my learning experience truly positive and rewarding… Your willingness to share your knowledge, provide constructive feedback, and support my development has been invaluable.”

He also spoke about the compassion shown across the wider team:
“Your commitment to the well-being, dignity, and comfort of residents was evident in the care you provided daily… I have learned the importance of empathy, patience, and respect in practice.”

Placements like this are not only about building clinical skills. They are about creating environments where people feel supported to grow, where teamwork is valued, and where high-quality, person-centred care is lived every day.

We are proud of the culture at Howe Dell Manor and the role our teams play in shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals.

We’re thrilled to share that Windermere House has retained its ‘GOOD’ rating following its latest PAMMS inspection, with no requirements for improvement and THREE areas graded as ‘Excellent’ within the report.

This is a fantastic achievement, particularly as Luton Borough Council has recognised how difficult it is to attain Excellent grades within the PAMMS framework.

Marie and the team are extremely pleased with the outcome, and the inspector commended the service for sustaining the improvements made since last year’s inspection and for continuing to build on that progress.

Tracy, Quality Officer at Luton Borough Council, also shared her praise, noting that the team should feel proud of what they have achieved.

This result reflects the ongoing dedication, consistency and care shown by everyone at Windermere House. Well done all, your hard work continues to pay off and be recognised.

It was a busy and joyful Easter at Greenwood Cottage, filled with activities that brought everyone together.

Residents enjoyed an Easter egg hunt, complete with a surprise golden egg and extra prize, proudly won by William. There was also plenty of creativity with Easter colouring, alongside lots of baking throughout the week.

The celebrations continued with a friendly Easter Bake Off against Lavender Lodge. With guest judge Rebecca taking on the difficult task of choosing a winner, the standard was incredibly high. After much deliberation, Greenwood Cottage took home the trophy for best bakes.

It was a fantastic few days, full of laughter, shared moments and a real sense of community for both residents and staff.

Following their 14-week placement, a student nurse placed at Eltisley Manor provided some wonderful feedback about their experience, showering the team with praise:

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible support and professional growth I experienced during my time at Nouvita Healthcare’s Eltisley Manor.

From the beginning, I felt welcomed by both the management and the staff. The positive and inclusive culture you have fostered made a significant difference in my learning journey. I am particularly grateful for the kindness shown by the residents; interacting with them was a highlight of my placement and served as a constant reminder of why I chose this profession.

I want to extend a special thank you to the nursing team for their mentorship, most especially my Assessor, Zoro, and my supervisor, Tiri. Their trust in my abilities allowed me to gain invaluable hands-on experience, particularly in medication management. I am especially proud of the proficiency I gained in administering depo and insulin under your guidance. Being trusted with these responsibilities significantly boosted my clinical confidence and reinforced my technical skills.

This placement has provided me with a solid foundation in nursing management and clinical practice. Thank you for your time, patience, and for treating me as a valued member of your team. I look forward to carrying the lessons learned here into my future career.”

Receiving positive feedback is always nice to hear, but when its from a student at the early stages of their career and knowing that their placement with us has been useful and beneficial to them, its all the more better. We’re so glad to hear you enjoyed your time with us and look forward to seeing your career bloom.
