The Club were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Hatfield, Councillor Mick Wise, who presented the prizes and India Lind of Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council. A special mention to Hatfield Swim Centre where our Club is based and we were very pleased to have the General Manager, Sebastian Pardo and the Community Sports Manager - Welwyn Hatfield (GLL), Caroline Shillabeer with us for the event (thank you Caroline for the great photos!). Lions Gala – 30th March 2025
Platypus Swimming Club sent two teams to the Lions Gala on 30th March which had a splendid total of seven teams attending. The result was in doubt until the final (relay) race, a win by either of our teams would have secured the trophy! However, they came fourth and sixth so that Turtles won the event but only by a single point from Pisces. The other teams (SOSA, Platypus Gentlemen, Platypus Ladies, Dolphins and Runnymede) followed at intervals of around three points. Lucy Harwood was the only winner for our ladies’ team, but there were three silver medals (Lucy, Emma Donovan and Abigail McLean). Joe Jones was the best of the Platypus swimmers with two gold medals and David Monk won one of his races.
The Club had a very enjoyable evening and well done to all the swimmers!
