I've been meaning to put together an overview of all the reasons we experience pain in the body.

I've broken it down in more depth here: https://www.livinginyoga.co.uk/blog/the-story-your-body-tells

Once you become aware of why pain exists in certain parts of the body, you realise that the body is not working against you; it’s responding to everything it has experienced. The goal then becomes to understand it, support it, and work with it.

Explore the root causes of body pain beyond the surface. Learn how your upbringing, injury compensations, and desk-sitting habits shape your posture and health.

In my 40s, I’ve realized that while my daily Yoga practice keeps me mobile and grounded, my body requires a different kind of stimulus to age the way I want to.While Yoga is incredible for functional and endurance strength through body weight resistance, research now shows that women over 40 need heavy loading.HERE IS WHY1. We are fighting Sarcopenia: After age 30, we naturally begin to lose muscle mass. By 40, this accelerates. We don’t get “frail” just because we get old; we get old because we lose our strength. Lifting heavy creates the necessary micro-tears to signal our bodies to hold onto (and build) muscle tissue that bodyweight alone often can’t stimulate.2. Bone Density: Estrogen protects our bones, but as we navigate our 40s, those levels shift. To prevent osteoporosis, we need to load the skeletal system. The compression from lifting weights signals to our bones that they need to stay dense and strong.I lift so I can keep practicing yoga for the next 40 years. It’s not about choosing one or the other; it’s about the marriage of mobility, flexibility and strength.Do you incorporate resistance training into your routine, or are you strictly a yogi?
