Your brain is always searching for proof of what you tell it.
It's called confirmation bias and it works like this: If you believe "nothing ever goes my way," your brain will highlight everything that confirms that belief. But if you tell yourself "I know things can get better," your brain will start searching for evidence to support that idea. Your brain is just doing it's job, looking for evidence to reinforce the world you've created in your thoughts.
So remember you have the power to shape your reality and the world around you.
The effect of this bias becomes stronger in the case of deeply ingrained beliefs, when we hold tightly to the need to be right, or when we have emotionally charged views. This is where mindfulness and critical thinking become important as they influence our ability to bend our beliefs to fit the facts or consider alternative outcomes.

I am a fully qualified Human Givens Practitioner working across Pembrokeshire in West Wales. I am passionate about helping people to become their best self by providing accessible effective brief therapy that allows them to live a life they love.
After many years of leading, managing and coaching large diverse teams in the commercial sector, I returned to Pembrokeshire in 2016 and trained in a counselling modality that is non-intrusive and provides effective fast results. Human Givens therapists are trained in dealing effectively, and as quickly as possible, with all major forms of distress.
The Human Givens approach draws on the latest findings from psychology and neurobiology about how people function and what we need to lead fulfilling lives and maintain emotional wellbeing. As a Human Givens therapist, I offer reliable and practical help for anyone suffering from any form of distress including but not limited to Anxiety, Stress, Depression, Addiction, Phobias, Panic attacks, Trauma, Bereavement, Lack of self-confidence, Sleep Issues, and Stress or Pain Management related to critical or chronic illness. To do this, I use a variety of up-to-date proven psychological methods and techniques (such as cognitive therapy, behavioural therapy, interpersonal therapy, solution-focused approaches, motivational interviewing, reflective listening and guided visualisation) focused on problem-solving and developing new life skills.
I have always loved helping people. The human givens approach is focused on the present and looks at practical solutions to emotional distress. Through discussion and various techniques I use, the therapy I provide aims to establish which emotional need(s) are not being met, why they are not being met and how this can be changed. I can then tailor solutions for each individual based on their personal experiences and concerns. I am available to see clients within Health & Wellness Centres in Fishguard and Haverfordwest. I am also willing to travel to see clients at home or in the workplace where privacy is available.
As a member of the Human Givens Institute (HGI) accredited in the UK by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care (PSA), Andrea abides by their professional conduct and ethics processes. The Human Givens approach is supported by the Primary Care Mental Health Education (PrimHE) and affiliated with the Royal College of General Practitioners.
