The Salt Loft Yoga Studio Also, I am qualified in Diet and Nutrition by Stonebridge College.

I began my journey of yoga when I was 20 years old but the real connection and the true journey of yoga started in 2014 when I realised yoga is a physical practise with spiritual intention. Initial, I approached yoga for healing benefits having issues with my hips and joints, but after an accident, yoga become part of my daily life. •

ears of study I gain the skills and knowledge to become a yoga Hatha teacher and awarded the professional BSY and registered as yoga teacher 150 hours. I am awarded the level 4 ABC externally validated certificate together with Yoga Anatomy diploma. I am blessed to practise with one of the best Ashtanga teacher, Kino McGregor and gain Yoga Alliance hours during my training courses over Europe

One year apart — and almost 20 kilos lighter.

To the surprise😲 (and disappointment) of some people, I lost the weight without injections, despite what many might think.

Intensive cardio and heavy weightlifting didn’t work for me. I also didn’t spend money on a “personal foodie guru.”🤣

I lost weight through intelligence and consistency: changing my mindset, practicing yoga, introducing more protein instead of carbohydrates, and reducing my portion sizes.

When you are over 50, things need to be approached differently. But there is no magical yoga workshop for menopause.

Cold swimming helps too.

So yes — once again, yoga helped me indirectly with my weight loss journey.

Dwi Pada Sirsasana - part of 2nd series of Ashtanga Yoga .

Open hips in yoga help with much more than flexibility. The hips are a major junction between the spine and legs, so when they move well, the whole body feels more balanced and supported.

It not necessary for a successful yoga practice, but it can show many years of dedicated practice , well I started back in 1991 ...☺️

Putting the legs behind the head in yoga is considered an advanced flexibility and control practice.

Doing legs behind my head shows very strong hip external rotation and compression flexibility, which takes a lot of dedicated mobility work and body awareness to achieve safely

Benefits can include:

* Deep hip opening
These poses require extreme external rotation and flexibility in the hips and glutes.

* Spinal flexibility
The spine must lengthen and stabilize while compressed, which builds awareness and control.

* Core strength
Even though it looks passive, the abdominal muscles and deep stabilizers work hard to support the posture.

* Focus and nervous system control
Advanced poses demand calm breathing and mental concentration. Staying relaxed in an intense stretch trains body awareness.

* Compression and internal massage effect
The folded position compresses parts of the abdomen and torso, which some practitioners feel improves circulation and body awareness.

* Energetic symbolism in yoga traditions
In some yogic systems, legs-behind-head poses symbolize turning inward, surrender, discipline, and mastery over discomfort.

Benefits of practicing Ashtanga Yoga online include improved strength, flexibility, posture, focus, and stress relief.

A half-primary practice is easier to fit into daily life, helping build consistency, boost energy, support relaxation, and improve overall mind-body balance from the comfort of home.

Practicing Ashtanga Yoga online is also great for learning the sequence, as repeating the same postures regularly helps improve memory, technique, breath coordination, and confidence at your own pace.

🙏NEXT YogaLates on the 27th of May but at 6 pm at Johnston Village Hall www.IrenaYoga.com

Great session this morning , thanks for coming 🙏

This class is not just Yoga or simply Pilates. It is an intelligent fusion of both practices, designed to activate the muscles while encouraging lengthening and overall body functionality.

We do not use heavy weights. Instead, we work with body weight, straps, and Pilates rings to awaken the nervous system — not through panic or pressure, but by creating natural strength, mobility, and flexibility.

Rather than following commercial fitness trends or corporate workout programs, each session adapts to the needs of the participants and supports other physical activities and lifestyles.Why do people love it?
Because it creates balance:

* strength without stiffness
* flexibility without weakness
* movement without rush
* stillness without stopping life

We are stepping into a modern — and perhaps soon fully AI-generated — yoga era. “Generation Yoga” has become focused on slim bodies, fitness, expensive yoga clothes, and showing off, blending fitness with ego. Yoga has become a big mixed salad of trends.

There is nothing necessarily wrong with any of this, but many people are now becoming obsessed with image, while authentic yoga teachers are becoming harder and harder to find. If a person is flexible and goes regularly to the gym, they may think they are ready to teach yoga, often without proper knowledge of breathing techniques or traditional yoga philosophy.

In my opinion, the more yoga teachers we have today, the fewer chances there are of finding a truly authentic one.

Happy birthday to Sir David Attenborough who turned 100 yesterday 🎉 and thank you for your wonderful work 🐘🐅

David Attenborough collaborated with the violinist Yehudi Menuhin on the 1963 BBC documentary 'Yehudi Menuhin and his Guru". His guru was B.K.S. Iyengar who also appeared on the show 🙏
The three appear above in a BBC still, which also featured on the front cover of our Dipika magazine 2023 for the article 'Rediscovering B.K.S. Iyengar on the BBC after Sixty Years' by Simon Crisp.

🤣 I had to share these pictures from today’s 3rd Series Ashtanga Yoga practice...

We were completely finished by the end — as you can probably tell from the photos 😂 After two hours of advanced breathing practice beforehand, it was intense!

(Aaron was checking our alignment with a sword ☺️😂)

It takes effort, dedication, and consistency — and we love it. There’s no point in doing only Yoga Nidra or chanting Bhakti if the body itself is fragile. Strength, breath, focus, and discipline all work together. 🙏
