Great advice for Diabetes Strong. How have you managed, we would love to hear from you.

I went in for a minor preventive procedure (all is good) that required anesthesia, which is always a bit challenging with diabetes.

I’ve had to be put under a few times, and this is what I’ve learned:

👉🏽Reduce my insulin the night before
👉🏽Inform the hospital of my diabetes REPEATEDLY
👉🏽Discuss how to treat lows if needed
👉🏽Bring a CGM receiver; every anesthesiologist I’ve met has been grateful
👉🏽When admitted, I insist on managing my diabetes myself

Christmas is a magical time of year. Twinkly lights, festive music, questionable jumpers… and enough food to feed a small village. For people living with Type 1 diabetes, it can also feel like a season-long obstacle course of carb counting, disrupted routines and well-meaning relatives saying, “Are you allowed that?”

The good news? You absolutely can enjoy Christmas without the stress stealing the sparkle. With a little planning, a dash of flexibility and a lot of self-kindness, the festive season can be just that — festive.
