Some friendships stay with a business for decades.

Jerry first became involved with FRIO in 2003, after being introduced to Garnet Wolsey through Pembrokeshire College to help resolve communication and quality issues with a supplier in China.

That first meeting led to years of support, from helping with customer orders in Pembrokeshire to representing FRIO UK in Beijing during a joint venture project.

More than 20 years later, Jerry remains part of the wider FRIO story.
As we celebrate 30 years of FRIO, we are proud to look back not only at our products, but at the people and relationships that helped shape the journey.

Over the past 30 years, FRIO UK has been proud to receive a number of awards recognising our work and growth. However, it was with a particular sense of achievement that we were honoured with the King’s Award for International Trade in 2024.

Distributing our products to over 70 countries, this prestigious recognition reflects not only the dedication of our incredible team and the continued support of our customers, but also the real impact our products are having around the world. We are especially proud that FRIO wallets are helping to improve lives in regions where electricity and refrigeration are not always readily available.

A FRIO evaporative cooling pouch keeps insulin and other temperature-sensitive medications within a safe temperature range of 18–26°C (64.4–78.8°F) for a minimum of 45 hours—even in constant environmental temperatures of up to 37.8°C (100°F).

Celebrating 30 years of innovation, inspired by an extraordinary journey 💙

Meet Helen Wolsey — British Powerlifting Champion from 1986–1992 (44kg), representing Great Britain on the European and world stage, and achieving World Champion status in 1991–92 and 1992–93.

At the 1991 World Championships in New Delhi, temperatures in the warm-up room reached a staggering 110°F. Competing in such extreme heat sparked a conversation between Helen and her parents, Garnet and Althea Wolsey — a moment that would change everything.

Driven by the challenge, they began working with scientists to develop a solution. The result? Innovative cooling crystals that harness evaporation — the very technology still at the heart of FRIO wallets today.

By 1996, these revolutionary cooling bands were supporting British Olympic and Paralympic teams in Atlanta.

Soon after, a simple but powerful conversation with a family friend revealed a new purpose: helping people with diabetes keep their insulin cool. And just like that, FRIO’s mission was born.
