~Affirmations~

Affirmations in birth aren’t about pretending everything feels easy.
They’re there to anchor you to calm & your breath, especially in moments that feel intense, overwhelming, or uncertain.

When I first started using affirmations, they felt clunky and a lot gave me the ick!
I've heard so many affirmations in the birth space, and I have seen the magic they can bring to mothers, so when I became pregnant I got curious about which could work for me.

A few ways to make them actually work for you:
✨ Choose ones that feel believable and relatable
✨ Repeat them regularly before birth, not just in labour
✨Put them somewhere you will see daily, on your mirror, or phone lock screen etc
✨ Pair them with your breathing practice or bedtime routine
✨ Use them most when things feel intense or stressful

Something that really made a difference to my birth preparation and how safe I felt in labour, was asking my besties at my mother's blessing to help me create affirmations. Knowing the ones I had hanging up in my birth space, were ones they had written with love and intention for me, really boosted my confidence and calm.

In my classes, we practise using affirmations alongside breath and movement, so they feel natural when you need them.

❓Which affirmation do you love most?

Join us at pregnancy yoga Fridays 6:30pm, at Camrose Community Centre, near Haverfordwest.
Suitable from 12+ weeks until birth, drop in or 6 week bundles are available.

~Power Hour ~

I love providing personalised support for you to feel clearer, more confident and prepared for birth or postpartum.
A recent client who had a Power Hour session with me wanted to chat through her plans for homebirth, growth of baby, scans, consultant recommendations and some practicalities of birthing at home.

We chatted through guidelines and her questions, how to support calm and balanced decision making and communication with professionals, and lots of other helpful points.

Power Hours are about giving you evidence-based information and a calm space to unpack your options.

This amazing mamma recently messaged to say her baby has arrived… at home, in the birth pool. I always feel so honoured to hear these updates, and so proud of my amazing clients.

If you’re navigating decisions around birth plans, guidelines or pregnancy support, a Power Hour can give you dedicated time to talk it all through.

DM with any questions or book your call/video call via the website link in my bio.

~Due date~

This week's topic for my 'midwife moment' in pregnancy yoga is due dates and how to navigate going overdue.

As a midwife I've cared for so many couples who see 40 & 41 weeks come and go, while they patiently await their baby's arrival. Personally I know all about being overdue!
I birthed our girl at 41+6, and having had IVF, everyone was SO sure they knew that she would arrive sooner than she did. Everyone, other than mummy and daddy, who trusted in her timing❤️

There's no doubt the pressure to go into labour builds as the days and weeks pass, and conversations around induction and next steps can leave you feeling rushed and unsure of what's best.

So, you definitely don't need the added pressure of updating every friend, family member and Whatsapp group with "no, still no signs!"

My advice is to either use a photo like these as your Whatsapp status photo, or delegate the job of boundary setting to your partner. Turn your phone off if you need to, and ask your partner to update friends & family at pre agreed stages to avoid pestering and worry.

Ideally you want to soak up those last few days and weeks unhurried and without being hounded for news.
Labour needs oxytocin, and oxytocin loves privacy!

If you'd like to dive into birth preparation tailored to you, book a power hour call with me, to feel confident and prepared for those last few weeks.

❓How did you handle going overdue? Did you feel the pressure from constant texts asking for news?

~Breathe with me through a contraction~

Most contractions last around a minute… but in the moment, they can feel so much longer.
Breathing, staying grounded, and understanding what’s happening in your body can make all the difference. When we begin to re frame our minds to welcome the power, rather than fear the pain, that's where you begin ✨💪🏻

This is exactly what we practise in my pregnancy yoga and birth workshops — so when the time comes, you feel calmer, more confident, and supported.

⭐Top tip to practice, set a timer for 60 seconds, and just breathe. Work out what breath pattern feels natural for you, try inhale for 4, out for 6, and if that doesn't feel right, simply find a pattern with a longer exhale than inhale to tap into that parasympathetic calm state.

If you’d like more personalised support, my Pregnancy Power Hour calls are there for you too, whenever you are.

~Pregnancy yoga~

I was setting up for pregnancy yoga last week, and it got me thinking about what my favourite parts of teaching are. After ten years of rolling out mats and welcoming mothers, I've had many highlights, but off the top of my head- my 3 favourite things about teaching pregnancy yoga are...

✨ Community- that's you! Getting to know you, and seeing you all connect and share
✨When I hear how much yoga has helped you emotionally and physically throughout pregnancy and birth
✨ Getting a front row seat to watching you grow as a mother, subtely bit by bit each week, it's magic.

When I drop into the calm of class, it's honestly one of the best parts of my week. 🤍

If you're pregnant locally, you’re so welcome to join us at Camrose Community Centre, near Haverfordwest.

1-2-1 pregnancy yoga classes also available locally or online 🤰🏻

With 15+ years as a midwife, and having become a mother myself, here are the bits that deserve more air time!

1) The 1st trimester is emotionally tough
From processing the positive result, to the not so fun nausea, fatigue and bloating, all while society tells you to keep it quiet- that's a lot! Find a trusted friend or loved one to lean on, and rest loads.

2) You're born as a new person too
Pregnancy isn’t just about growing a baby.
You’re also growing into a new version of yourself, and it’s normal to feel excited, uncertain, and even to grieve parts of your old life.

3) Birth preparation is about more than a birth plan
Birth plans matter, but so does preparing your body, mind and support network.

4) Planning for postpartum matters hugely
We spend years planning a wedding, months planning for the birth, and most barely consider postpartum! You'll thank yourself for taking care of life admin tasks before birth, stocking the freezer, delegating tasks, calling on support. Remember you've just been born too as parents.

5) Pregnancy can be magical, and hard!
You can feel grateful, excited, overwhelmed, exhausted and worried, sometimes all in the same hour!

6) Your birth partner may feel unsure too
Many partners feel quite lost.
Birth partners want to help, but many feel unsure what to do. A little preparation can make a huge difference.

7) Finding your community makes everything easier
Pregnancy is more fun, and feels less isolating when you find others on a similar journey. Being around other pregnant people at yoga, or on a course together can feel very reassuring, and you might make a friend for life!

These are the kinds of conversations we often have in pregnancy yoga and my birth workshop. Both give a space to move, learn and talk honestly about the journey into parenthood.

💥 POWER HOUR CALLS 💥

Sometimes you don’t need a full antenatal course, or have the time for one if something has cropped up that's got you stumped in late pregnancy.
You just need time to talk things through with someone who understands birth, someone who knows how to present information in a balanced and unbiased way, to help you make the best informed choice for you and your baby.

One of the parts I have loved most about being a midwife is slowing things down, taking the time to hear your concerns, and support you to work through options and evidence. I feel passionate about providing the space and support, that can be difficult to find in the NHS. Appointments are never long enough, especially if you're sitting with a new development or discussion around guidelines.

My Power Hour sessions are a relaxed 1-2-1 call where we can explore whatever feels most important to you right now.

That might be:

• Planning a home birth
• Understanding an induction recommendation
• Writing birth preferences
• Debriefing a previous birth
• Preparing for the postnatal weeks

No rush. No judgement. Just evidence-based support and space to think things through.

If you’ve been wishing you could just ask a midwife all your questions — this is that space.

*I do not give personalised medical advice, however I can recommend who to talk to, how to navigate your options and understand what questions to ask. Please always contact your named midwife urgently with any health concerns.

~Early labour tips~

Early labour can feel exciting, emotional and sometimes a little uncertain. In most cases, labour starts gently and gradually. The early phase is your body building rhythm, softening the cervix and encouraging oxytocin to flow.
Simple things can make a big difference:

✨ Resting
✨ Eating and drinking
✨ Staying somewhere you feel safe and comfortable
✨ Protecting your oxytocin

These are the same foundations we practise in my pregnancy yoga classes and birth preparation workshops, helping you feel calmer, more confident and more prepared for labour.

If you're currently pregnant and thinking about how you'd like to prepare for birth, I'd love to support you.

~Mindful birth workshop feedback~

This is my 'why' when it comes to supporting your birth preparation 🥹🙌
I love supporting parents to transform fear into trust, clueless into clued up, and to give them the confidence to stay at the centre of their pregnancy and birth journey.

Through years of supporting birth in all settings, witnessing the power of women and babies, and seeing what a difference empowered birth preparation can make to a birth experience, I just have to share my tips with you 🤩

This workshop delivers birth physiology nuggets, to help you understand the incredible birth process, and how you can support not hinder this magic.

And for our amazing birth partners? Don't fear, I've got you! This workshop will give you the tips, tricks and confidence to feel like the best birth partner ever.
Learn how to physically and emotionally support your partner- and hear some of my worst (but hilarious) real life birth partner faux pas! (Spoiler- As long as you aren't asking to watch the footy while mum is pushing, you're already winning!)

✨Evidence based
✨Fun and informative

✨Empowering
✨Birth preparation to transform your birth in any setting
