Some clients arrive with a list of symptoms — neck tension, hip pain, headaches, even wrist pain. Issues that have gone on for weeks, months even years.
Different areas. Different stories. But often the same root cause.
When the dura is restricted, the body compensates everywhere.
Bowen works through the layers to that root cause, reset and calms the dura which then can lead to longer periods of alignment and elimination of pain and discomfort. Peeling off the onion layers is often how I relate the process of Bowen treatment to my clients. How many of those layers is unknown until we start and go through the process of realigning and balancing the body. Things going on historically have a big impact on the layers too so trust the process!

PROPRIOCEPTION. Bit of a mouthful isn’t it! Defined it is your body’s ability to understand its position and movement in space even without visual clues.

Proprioceptors are the specialised sensory receptors that our bodies use to ascertain the stretch, tension and placement of muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints.

An example of this is to stand with your eyes shut and move your arms - can you tell where they are? That’s proprioception in a nutshell.

Proprioceptors are the transmitters of vital information, transmitting it from the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) to the Central Nervous System (CNS) as illustrated in the image below.

Blue lines : Sensory fibres firing information to the CNS (brain & spinal cord)
Pink lines : Motor fibres sending messages and signals to skeletal muscles, glands and visceral (including the sympathetic and parasympathetic system)

How does this work in the context of Bowen Therapy?
Bowen moves work to target the proprioceptors delivering signals to change the body’s perception of pain, pressure and muscle tensegrity.

The result? Relaxation of the tissues involved that lead to:

• Postural realignment and balance
•Regulation of the Autonomic Nervous System
•Fascial Release
•A boost to the body’s innate healing mechanisms.

What a week so far, thank you to all the amazing new clients that have come my way as well as my lovely regular clients in for their maintenance and top up treatments. This week I've had clients with knee mobility issues, shoulder issues - rotator cuff and frozen shoulder issues, lower back problems and lots of neck, hip and pelvic aches and pains and a few clients with longstanding migraines as well. Some positive responses and feedback coming from my clients and effective shifts in their pain and discomfort.

Lovely reviews also help and this week I got one from a lovely gentleman that came to me after Christmas in a lot of pain with his leg and ankle unable to walk properly and not being able to sleep as even the bed sheet touching his skin was agony, I was able to help him and I received a lovely review:

The beauty of Bowen therapy is that through gentle assessment, the body itself indicates the true area/ areas of dysfunction that need balancing in order for the entire body to work in harmony. Through gentle manipulation of the muscle, soft tissue and fascia the body is able to relay the correct information to allow tension, pain and discomfort to ease. No cracking, pulling, pushing or heavy handedness but a treatment to restore balance and calm and alleviate longstanding and deep rooted pain.

Glorious blue sky yesterday on my first day back in clinic after the Christmas break, pretty chilly but nothing my little power heater can't sort out to make the treatment room lovely and toasty for the day's Bowen treatments. I had some of my lovely regular clients in for their top up / maintenance treatments and it was a busy day!
