Heard this today and thought you might find it useful:

Don't let perfect get in the way of better.

If this resonates maybe it's time to get some help to explore it where it comes from for you and to see if you want to change any of it.

There's usually positives and negatives in the way we process; it's helped to keep you safe in the past but perhaps now it keeps you stuck.

As you may know, if you've checked out my website, I have some testimonials from past clients.

These may be useful for those who are unsure about therapy or about me.

This is one I've just received from a client I've worked with for the past two years; it was a privilege to work with her:

I'm 73 and finally more free than I've been my whole memorable lifetime. My first bout of poor mental health at 21 caused me to be placed in a psychiatric hospital, followed by a lifetime of periods of dark depression.

Finally...after inappropriate therapy it was suggested I contact Dominique, I had lost trust in both people and systems. We agreed a first meeting which lasted a full 2 years.

The unpacking of my Complex PTSD took me back to 4 years old and through 6 decades of life, with so many tears in the first year of therapy, through which Dominique never let me down and gained my trust. That was the real breakthrough for me. 'Trust'.

I applaud and thank her for her professionalism and humanity; giving me a freedom I never envisaged possible. I needed some peace and Dominique led me to find it.

So, I would encourage anyone to take a first step on their journey.

One of my favourite actors and I didn’t know this about him.

If you want to change you can and that doesn’t necessarily mean never drinking again (but it might).

If you’re struggling, get help. You can change things if you really want to (that doesn’t mean it’s easy!).

I’m always happy to chat on the phone, even if I’m not right for you but you’re looking to be pointed in the right direction.

Counselling is a very personal thing, especially when you choose who to go to see for help.

I’m always happy to chat on the phone first, even if you don’t think I’m for you.

I remember choosing my own therapist when I was training. I knew I’d be committing to at least 2 years with a therapist and so it was important to choose the right person for me. The same is true for you.

It is easy to assume that all therapists are the same; we are not.

We bring with us, not only our training but our life experiences and our experience of how we received our own personal therapy.

Whether you’ve had therapy before or are just considering it for the first time, each period of therapy is likely to be different even if it’s with the same therapist.

My clients have been of all ages; young people through to older adults in the last period of their lives.

Some people race through, and others take their time; there is no right or wrong, just what is right for you.

Some stay just a few sessions and others for years and all in between.

I see clients weekly and some less frequently, sometimes for financial reasons and sometimes because of work or shift patterns.

When you choose to see someone privately there is more flexibility and an opportunity to dip in and out as you choose.

There is always something new to learn about yourself through your intergenerational family experiences. I am still learning new things about me and mine.

The earlier you take the plunge, the more of your life to come may benefit.

Be brave, take a chance, what have you got to lose?

It’s not as scary as you may think.

If you are looking for some understanding as to why we do what we do (to ourselves) I can thoroughly recommend an inspirational podcast.

You will find it on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or watch on Utube:

Steven Barlett interviewing Gabor Mate, episode 193.

If you are reading this it might be because you are thinking about contacting me.

I have a telephone and number exclusively for my work, which no one else has access to and is secure.

I notice that I often get missed calls, sometimes from withheld and sometimes not.

I can't always answer - I might be working, or just not get to the phone on time - or it might be on days when I'm not working and so away from the phone.

I understand it might be unsettling if I can't answer immediately but I encourage you to leave me a message or to text me.

I check my 'work' phone regularly and will always be discreet when I respond.

The quickest way to contact me is by email, which does come through to my 'personal' phone.

But which ever way you contact me, I will always respond and am more than happy to arrange a convenient time to chat, if that would help.

Hello to those of you checking out this page, it may be because you are wondering about talking to someone about something that's bothering you.

I'm always happy to chat on the phone, if you'd like to find out how I work and if I might be right for you.

Counselling/therapy is a very personal experience and it's really important to find the right person for YOU.

Whatever your coping strategies are, they are just that and my job is to help you understand why you use the strategies you do.

Usually these are survival ones that once worked but don't any longer.

Please feel free to give me a ring - 07896 921690 - there's no commitment - I may not be free to answer you, but will get back to you as soon as I can, so do leave me a message if I don't.

Or if you'd like make an initial appointment (or an appointment to chat) - dwcounselling@gmail.com.

I'm here to see if I can help.

Despite the lifting of some Covid restrictions, I am continuing to use my sitting room (a larger space) to work face to face and keep us all as safe as possible.

I also offer therapy by telephone or online, regularly, or occasionally.

If you are considering therapy and would like to know how I work, I’m happy to chat on the phone first.

07986 921690 is my dedicated work number which is secure and confidential.

Appointment spaces currently available on Friday afternoons.

I continue to work face to face, but to try and keep us all as safe as is possible I have (again) moved my practice into my sitting room. It is a much bigger room allowing us to sit much further apart.

I also work online or by telephone for those who would rather.
