Counselling is a very personal thing, especially when you choose who to go to see for help.
I’m always happy to chat on the phone first, even if you don’t think I’m for you.
I remember choosing my own therapist when I was training. I knew I’d be committing to at least 2 years with a therapist and so it was important to choose the right person for me. The same is true for you.
It is easy to assume that all therapists are the same; we are not.
We bring with us, not only our training but our life experiences and our experience of how we received our own personal therapy.
Whether you’ve had therapy before or are just considering it for the first time, each period of therapy is likely to be different even if it’s with the same therapist.
My clients have been of all ages; young people through to older adults in the last period of their lives.
Some people race through, and others take their time; there is no right or wrong, just what is right for you.
Some stay just a few sessions and others for years and all in between.
I see clients weekly and some less frequently, sometimes for financial reasons and sometimes because of work or shift patterns.
When you choose to see someone privately there is more flexibility and an opportunity to dip in and out as you choose.
There is always something new to learn about yourself through your intergenerational family experiences. I am still learning new things about me and mine.
The earlier you take the plunge, the more of your life to come may benefit.
Be brave, take a chance, what have you got to lose?
It’s not as scary as you may think.
