The name "oud" is simple and evocative: in Arabic, it means "wood." Over time, the term came to refer specifically to fragrant agarwood. "Agarwood" itself derives from ancient Sanskrit and Hindi roots (aguru or agar), reflecting its long history in Indian and Eastern traditions.
