šŸŒž MAMA MOMENTS ~ MOTHERS CIRCLE šŸŒž

September is here and with that brings back routine, that Autumnal feeling, nights drawing in, crisp mornings, hot drinks, and a time to start slowing down.

It feels really right to start this group now - a monthly meet-up for mums and their little ones. This is about coming together and just sharing the load of motherhood and connecting with others who are going through the exact same thing.

Imagine sitting round with other amazing women (partners welcome of course) chatting about your journey so far, with no pressure or judgment, listening to others and learning some top-tips on all things postpartum and motherhood. There may be times we do something a little creative too whether that’s a bit of journaling or creating something arty to take away! You don’t have to be an artist it’s more about coming together and just having some fun!

There will be a theme each month with a guest expert coming along to share their experiences and how they can help and support you during postpartum.

It will be held at .yurt, a beautiful, peaceful space in St Erth once a month on a Sunday afternoon!

A hot drink and homemade snack will be included and I will be on hand to have lots of baby snuggles so you can relax and enjoy your drink whilst it’s hot 🤪

This isnt going to be a cheesy group and I understand it can feel a little daunting going to a new group but trust me, it really won’t be as scary as you might imagine. I have met some of the most amazing friends through going to things like this that felt aligned with me and what I needed at the time, usually a bit of connection! Motherhood can be wonderful but also a little lonely.

I can’t wait to meet you ā˜ŗļø

Book online via www.calmamother.co.uk or comment šŸ¤Ž below and I’ll send you the link to book.

Feel free to pop any questions here too!

Here’s a little story as to why I think if you are pregnant, you need to be learning about the way you might want to feed your baby BEFORE they arrive!

And also to remind you that you absolutely can feed your baby the way you want to with the right guidance and support. You are stronger than you can even imagine!!!

My job is to be the person to remind you of that whilst showing you all the little technical things that can help make this happen!

Just a little reminder of how I can support you as a Doula.

If you are reading this and you’re pregnant. Let me ask you this… how are you preparing for birth and postpartum? Or are you planning on ā€œwinging itā€?

This is such a huge time in your life - you are about to become a parent, a mother! It’s life changing. I want you to look back and think wow, I’m an actual superhero and no matter how you birthed or fed your baby - you feel content and proud and SUPPORTED!

I work so much on this throughout any support I give you. I believe so much can change by just the way you see a situation and how you FEEL about it.

If you want to know more about how you can prepare for birth and postpartum and come out the otherside feeling incredible, get in touch. We can have a chat about ways that feel good for you AND your partner.

✨POSTPARTUM✨

The Myth that you need to ā€˜bounce back’ really gets on my nerves.

What is the reality of postpartum?
Often it’s mums feeling like they’re failing if they’ve not made it out of the house by a certain point or the most common one I hear is, ā€œthe only thing I’ve done today is….ā€ and it’s usually stay at home and feed or hold the baby.
I’ve seen so many women feel like they’re failing simply because they’re tired, overwhelmed, sore, and emotional at four weeks postpartum.

But that’s not failure. That’s just the truth of early motherhood. You don’t need to be the same version of yourself again. You’re allowed to become someone new, stronger, messier, wiser.

It can be tough, so don’t punish yourself for not keeping up with society’s expectations and demands on new mothers!

As a doula, I’m not here to get you ā€œback to normal.ā€
I’m here to support you while you create a new one.

I’m just going to say it… I constantly see expectant parents planning their new Instagram-worthy nursery and making sure they have the freshest prints up on the wall and the cutest rattan decor (which admittedly I do actually love) BUT…have they prepared for what’s to come during birth - maybe a little. Postpartum - nope! How they want to feed their baby - umm, nah we will just wing that as it’s ages away.

It’s nobody’s fault really but social media has us thinking we need to redecorate the baby’s nursery and have all the brand-new gadgets and toys for our newborns. When in fact, they’ll spend the first 6 months (sometimes more) in your room where you’ll be up in the night feeding, potentially wishing you’d invested more into preparing for breastfeeding or learning about life with a newborn!

So, if I can give you some advice… don’t worry too much about the baby’s room. Yes, it’s lovely having colour coordinated wardrobes and matching curtains but trust me, that won’t matter a single bit when you’re in the thick of it and riding the postpartum rollercoaster. Don’t overthink all the gadgets etc … trust your gut with how you want to parent your baby. Invest in some reliable education and support that will help you through the tough times. Seek out your local groups or just some professionals in your area that you can go to should you need it.
Get yourself some comfortable clothing - especially if you’re nursing and find some holistic ways of helping your body to recover from childbirth.

I could go on and on about how priorities need to shift a bit when it comes to postpartum care and we as mothers, need to take it into our own hands as it’s not always there readily available within the current maternity system!

Do you agree? šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

So I see this quite often:

Everyone’s planning the perfect birth - but few are planning their support system.
I do think this is a bold statement- I’m not sure there is such thing as the ā€˜perfect’ birth these days BUT… I sure as hell believe that if you have the right tools and understanding AND support you can get very very close and both you and your partner can have an amazing experience. And if birth doesn’t go the way you ā€˜planned’ you can still feel really positive about it.

Not every partner knows how to support you as a birthing mother and that’s ok but there are so many ways that they can do this if they are shown. Nobody really stressed this enough to us in the beginning. It’s almost like it was expected of Ben to know how to support me both emotionally and physically!?

Postpartum is a roller coaster and so many women and families will focus on the birth far more than the postpartum stage. Society doesn’t encourage women enough to invest in their transition into motherhood! Have you ever heard of matrescense?!

Breastfeeding can be instinctive for some mum and babies yes but also can feel totally overwhelming, exhausting, unknown and so far from natural… but…if you receive the right support and education it can feel so worth it and create a bond with your baby that is undeniable!

In a nutshell, I support women before, during, and long after baby arrives because motherhood doesn’t come with a manual and the journey doesn’t just stop after your baby is here.

These things are just a few bits of advice I wish I’d known and heard before I had my first baby.

If you’re pregnant, get in touch if you want to talk about how the right kind of planning and support could majorly benefit you and your experiences! Asking for help and support is a sign of strength šŸ¤Ž

Ok, so I don’t exactly disagree with having a checkup, it’s more the whole process of it and who suggested six weeks?

The checkup in a nutshell: mums get a grand total of 10 minutes to be asked, ā€œAre you okay?ā€ before being handed a contraception leaflet and sent on their way. (HA, really?!)
No real deep dive into recovery, no proper check of the pelvic floor, no discussion about mental health beyond a tick-box exercise. Just a casual ā€œyou’re good to goā€ as if our bodies (and minds) magically bounce back in six weeks šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

Meanwhile, we’re navigating sleep deprivation, hormonal chaos, a body that feels like it belongs to someone else, and the expectation that we should just get on with it. And then there’s exercise-mums unknowingly get back to it with zero guidance on how to actually rebuild strength safely.

The reality? It takes months and years, to fully heal- both physically and mentally. Yet postpartum care still feels like an afterthought. Mums deserve more. Proper checks, real support, and a healthcare system that prioritises recovery, not just a tick-box sign-off at six weeks because six weeks is not a finish line, it’s just the beginning!!!

Anyone else agree with this? Or been asked about what contraception you’re going to use, like that’s the first thing on your mind six weeks postpartum 🫣🄓🤣

*Sorry Dads, if you’re reading this and you think that it’s the top of our list because we’ve been handed a leaflet, you might want to have a little quiet chat with yourself šŸ˜…

Whether you’re still waiting to meet your baby or already fresh in the fourth-trimester, you might be feeling something no one really prepared you for- the shift within you.

This is ā€˜matrescence’ - the huge transformation into motherhood. It’s beautiful, but it can also be overwhelming. The changes in your body, your emotions, your identity… it’s like stepping into a whole new world without a map. And for many (including myself first time around), that shift can feel like a shock.

This is where a postnatal doula becomes invaluable. I’m not just there to help with newborn care-I’m there for you. To guide you through this transition, to reassure you when those little doubts creep in, to help you rest and heal, and to remind you that you don’t have to figure it all out by yourselves.

Motherhood is a journey, and I genuinely believe every journey is easier with the right support. Us as mothers, parents, are not meant to do this alone. You deserve to be nurtured just as much as your baby.

Are you ready to be supported in this transition? If you think you want that extra bit of care in your motherhood journey, get in touch.

✨ Monthly Pregnancy Circle✨

I’ve been wanting to hold something like this for a while now and I’ve finally just got on with it!!

Join me in the peaceful hidden yurt for a relaxing and supportive space just for you as expectant parents. Each session will begin and end with a gentle guided relaxation, allowing you to actually unwind and practise the skill of relaxing and switching off - not a skill we’re all that natural at!
With a different theme each month, we’ll explore topics to support both pregnancy and postpartum in a flowing, pressure-free way. Meaning - if something crops up that needs talking about we will just go with the flow!

There’s space to share any concerns if you wish, but you’re also welcome to simply come, relax, and be. Together, we’ll enjoy some nourishing refreshments (with some sweet treats) and fun activities like journaling, pregnancy art, self-massage techniques and postnatal planning—all practical, meaningful ways to support you through this journey. Come as you are, and create a space of connection and calm šŸ¤Ž

If you’d like to book, the first session is Friday 14th March at 7pm! .yurt

Please message me and I’ll send a link to book!

✨ BUMPS & BABIES ✨

This group is for expectant mums and new mums to come and meet other women going through the same journey as you are! It makes all the difference when you surround yourself with people who get it! They’re either in your shoes right now or have been there so can give you the support you need.
I set this group up for the mothers, as much as I love love love your little ones, it was you I had in mind when I started. I wanted a space that you could come and just BE. We chat, laugh, sometimes cry and that’s ok, we recommend things and share stories.

If you think you need to be around this kind of atmosphere then come along to Bumps & Babies on a Friday at 1.30pm.

It’s currently in the Penwith Pitch and Putt Cafe but will hopefully be back in The Hidden Yurt very soon, providing we have enough of you lovely mums coming along šŸ¤Ž either way, both spaces are very chilled and and very welcoming.

A mum who came along last week text me saying ā€œthank you for the group today, it was just what I neededā€
