Please email Simon@EMDRConrnwall.co.uk if you are interested in arranging sessions…….. What is EMDR? EMDR is a therapy that uses eye movements that track from left to right. We sometimes use methods such as alternating tones between each ear, or alternate buzzing between each hand instead of, or alongside, the eye movements. The therapy has been proven to be an effective way to process traumatic material that still impacts you now in some way. Traumatic memories can often impact people in the form of flashbacks and nightmares, but you may be affected in other ways as well. Together, we would look back at specific memories at your pace and using the eye movements (or other methods) to help your brain re-experience these memories and process them with new integrative material. This can stop flashbacks and nightmares very quickly and allow you to gather a sense that the traumatic material is in the past and has been dealt with for now. This therapy is usually used to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD. I have some experience offering patients EMDR whom also experience a serious mental illness such as severe depression, psychosis or bipolar affective disorder or complex PTSD.
