So privileged to have known and cared for this wonderful lady. We will never forget her at The Beeches Nursing Home RIP Averil ###x

Averil R Jarvis MBE (1945-2025)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our founder, Averil Jarvis MBE, a compassionate and visionary advocate for the elderly and their pets. Averil passed away peacefully at her care home in Hayle, Cornwall, today 22nd January 2025.

Averil was best known as the founder of The Cinnamon Trust, a national charity established in 1985 to provide peace of mind and practical help for older people and the terminally ill with their pets. Inspired by the heartache she witnessed when people were forced to part with their beloved companions.

The Trust, named after her cherished corgi, Cinnamon, has grown from a small group of volunteers to a nationwide network of thousands of volunteers. It has provided support to countless individuals and their pets, offering services such as dog-walking, cat care and fostering.

Averil's unwavering commitment to the welfare of both people and animals has left an indelible mark on the lives of many. Her legacy extends beyond The Cinnamon Trust. Her work has been recognised with numerous awards, including the prestigious Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for her services to the community. Her kindness, dedication, and vision have inspired many to continue her mission of compassion and care.

Averil is survived by her family, friends, and the countless individuals whose lives she touched through her work. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her and in the ongoing work of The Cinnamon Trust.

Rest in peace, Averil. Your kindness and dedication will never be forgotten.

We are absolutely delighted and so proud to announce that The Beeches Nursing Home has been awarded a national Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Award for its delivery of end of life care during the pandemic.
On top of that we have also been nominated for the GSF Care Home of the year!

The Award will be given as part of the Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Virtual Awards on 5th May, which recognises health and social care providers delivering quality care in the final year of life.
The Beeches is one of 42 care homes, primary care, domiciliary care agency and hospitals which will receive the prestigious GSF quality hallmark across the country during the virtual ceremony.

The Gold Standards Framework Centre, provides expert training for frontline staff in health and social care, to enable a ‘gold standard’ of care for people nearing end of life.

Before the pandemic hit, GSF provided face-to-face workshops, but have successfully adapted and moved online to adhere to COVID-19 regulations. The training has been a huge success, and has supported both families and patients to discuss end of life care planning and what matters to them at the end of life.

The Beeches Nursing Home is proud to have been accredited by the GSF for many years.
We have again successfully achieved reaccreditation by demonstrating the sustainability of GSF and have received the GSF Platinum Award. We are so very proud of all our team, as there has never been a more important time to ensure we deliver quality end of life care.
