The Reflex Edit - Part V – Except spoiler, this isn’t actually a reflex, it’s an acupressure point!
Something I like to do to enhance my treatments is to utilise my knowledge and training in acupressure. Reflexology has its roots in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) & I have both a strong personal and professional interest in TCM, it’s fascinating.
The aim of reflexology from a TCM perspective is to encourage and balance the flow of Qi. Qi is our life energy, and is thought to be essential for the functioning of all the organs and processes in our body.
Qi is said to circulate through 12 meridians and 2 extraordinary vessels. For total health Qi must flow through all the meridians freely and evenly. A blockage in a meridian is thought to lead to disharmony and disease within the body.
On the sole of the foot, lotcated close to the solar plexus, you will find the acupressure point KI 1 (also known as ‘the bubbling spring’ )– The first point on the kidney meridian it is one of the most vital points in acupressure.
The kidneys are important to the health of the entire body, especially the processes of reproduction, development and maturation, hence disharmony in the kidney meridian can be reflected as ‘menstrual’ or ‘fertility problems.
It is an essential point to work in my treatments; When a woman is
· TTC to support fertility.
· suffering from Premenstrual or Menstrual problems.
· experiencing Peri/menopause symptoms such as rage, hot flushes or night sweats.
· suffering from fatigue
· suffering with back pain.
· It’s great to support anxiety as it calms and clears the mind and relieves restlessness, eases fear and overwhelm.
· Experiencing insomnia especially if caused by fear or agitation.
· Suffering from acute problems such a shock or palpitations.
This point brings a surge of fresh, revitalizing, renewing energy to that which is wilting, drained or exhausted, encouraging you to get out of your head and into your body.
Fascinating stuff and just one of the many ways I aim to make your treatments that much more effective.
