Are you taking care of your skin during the summer? ☀️
Your body will be soaking up the sun’s rays and absorbing Vitamin D which in turn helps the body to absorb Calcium and supports bone health. You can absorb enough Vitamin D per day in just 15 minutes if you have light skin and up to 2 hours if you have darker skin. Sun cream can block Vitamin D absorption, so spending a short time in the sun without letting your skin burn is beneficial before you apply sun cream. Be sunscreen savvy and avoid creams with cancer causing nano particles octocrylene or octinoxate and avoid creams with ocean and reef damaging oxybenzone and octinoxate. Some fab mineral creams are out there now, although some lack the UVA anti skin cancer protection so always check the UVA protection levels, Tropic have produced an amazing range, contact me to purchase.
Aftercare is equally as important; the skin requires nourishing and healing. The following essential oils safely blended into an Aloe Vera base are your best aftercare - Chamomile – Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antibacterial. Relieves skin conditions such as atopic eczema, relieves itching, relieves skin irritation and aids wound healing, reduces acne scars and fights breakouts, treats sunburn. Lavender – Anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal. Soothing and healing. Helps relieve redness and soreness from sunburn, soothes eczema, treats insect bites, relieves psoriasis, treats burns, soothes irritated skin. Frankincense - Astringent, anti-inflammatory., soothes inflamed skin, reduces redness, helps reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks, assists cell regeneration.
The sun also breaks down collagen in the skin if not adequately protected, so it is important to support your body with extra collagen from supplements and diet including bone broth during the sun-drenched months. This helps to stop premature aging of the skin and supports the joints.
