Sunday I completed the Royal Parks half marathon in London with a respectable run/walk jeffing plan of 2:29 for the half marathon distance

Anyone with previous injuries will know that some take years to fix and rehab and this race meant drawing a line under one I occurred back in 2017. With careful planning, fuelling, self-rehab and a training plan that my body could adapt to, I am back running and loving it 🤩

This is a brilliant race, well organised, fantastic support all the way around the course and a brilliant route taking in 4 royal parks and many landmarks such as the London eye, Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Royal Albert Hall etc
I would highly recommend this race to everyone who loves running

Yesterday was a carefully planned recovery day with a relaxed walk to stretch the legs and today is incorporating foam rolling to ease out any tight muscles

After you’ve had a good massage you want to make the most out of the treatment by planning what you do that day

It’s best to avoid strenuous exercise the same day following your massage for the following reasons

1. You’ve just paid good money to have a massage treatment on your body. This is your ‘service’ or ‘mot’ on your body

2. Your fascia (skin) and muscles have just been stretched and relaxed. This is very beneficial to your body and introducing strenuous exercise straight after will cause your muscles to contract and tense up again. Also the relaxed muscles and fascia will not be holding your body in the same way so you may find stability around joints is more relaxed than you are used to and you don’t want to be susceptible to injury. Give it time to recover

3. With relaxation of muscles performing to the same standard in exercise, sport or gym etc. you may find you are more fatigued the same day and your session won’t be as affective

4. Your body is recovering that day, give it time to adjust and feel the benefits

A gentle walk or bike ride is perfectly fine after a massage and will compliment the treatment by further improving blood flow and mentally clearing your mind. Keep it short and on easy terrain. The massage treatment has helped to lower your stress levels and any exercise following this should be gentle enough to keep it low.
Any ni**les don’t push through, this should be easy

Be kind to yourself

The West Highland Way hiking challenge
Total actual miles hiked - 100
In 36 hours 12 minutes over 8 days back to back 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🥾

This is the longest hike I’ve ever taken on and back to back days definitely made it a challenge. Lack of sleep some days and a ni**le in my achilles made it tough but great company and amazing views got me through it and surprisingly feeling ok!! Lots of stretches and magnesium spray helped

Massage booked for me for tomorrow 🙏🏻

I have loved my first day of 3 practical days, studying Oncology Massage with the brilliant and a great group of therapists. Day 3 will be a final exam.

The biggest difference between Sports Massage and Oncology Massage is the application and speed with which you work, slowing down the movements so the tissue 'melts' underneath, but still using techniques to apply a substantial pressure the client will love.

Clients with cancer or any condition that is placing a great stress on the body’s systems, require a specialist approach, assessing the individual needs of each client, and using techniques to assist the client’s recovery or comfort.

This is by no means a light, fluffy massage but one that will calm their nervous system and enhance their well being

I can't wait to put this into practice and be able to offer this amazing specialist service to help people with cancer whatever stage they are going through, adapted and tailored to the safety and comfort of each client.

On Sunday I completed an amazing event hosted by Rat Race Adventures

Starting at 7am, sea kayaking 11k (6.8 miles) followed straight after with an undulating 32.5k (20.1 miles) hike from Paralia Mesa Pigadia, at the bottom of Santorini to the highest point, Mount Profitis Ilias (567 metres), and on to Oia at the top of the island. Temperatures reached 33 degrees 🥵

Incredible experience and our first Rat Race abroad.
