Hanging out with my new friend Hazel, in a Watership Down style, up here by the Belle Tout lighthouse on the South Downs. I count myself lucky because I regularly get close to wildlife. Whether it’s because I am in nature so much or whether I give off a ”safe for creatures” signal… personally I believe its because of magic. 🍄🏔️💚🌲🐦‍⬛🐇🦭🦅🐛🏔️

Discovering Chaga! Also wishing everyone a truly fantastic and rewarding 2026! Happy new year! May it bring you closer to nature and all its wonders and rewards.
Chaga or (Inonotus obliquus) is a fairly well documented but notoriously difficult to find medicinal mushroom. At least here in southern England. Chaga which has been known and used for centuries for its medicinal qualities usually develops on birch trees in the taiga belt, also known as the boreal forest. An area of northern forests covering parts of North America, Canada, Scandinavia Russia and northern China.

Having lived for a while in northern Sweden and travelled into the Arctic regions I was a keen Chaga forager and have wondered if it ever developed this far south. Discovering it in isolated pockets of Sussex has been extremely exciting.

Hello again from Creature here in the truly beautiful Ashdown Forest 🌳 Today I wanted to do a quick comparison of Turkey Tail fungi (Trametes versicolour) & ”False Turkey Tail” (Sterium subtomentosum). Both equally beautiful little bracket mushrooms, with the turkey tail possessing the beneficial triturpens and beta-glucans. Hope you enjoy it 😊🍄💚🍁🌲🙏🏻

Enjoying a forage in one of my favourite woods, today Creature finds some
”golden” chanterelles! Cantharellus cibarius, also known as girolle or pfifferling or kantareller.
Truly one of the very best tasting wild mushrooms out there. 🌲🙏🏻🍄💚🍁

”Cautious my precious…!” Today a little throw back to late September, where Creature is discovering one of the most deadly mushrooms out there! The death cap (Amanita phalloides) responsible for more fatalities than any other mushroom due to the fact that it’s relatively easy to mistake for edible mushrooms unless you are fairly well trained. Something I warn about on my foraging courses, how vital it is to only eat foraged wild mushrooms when you are absolutely 💯 one hundred percent certain of your identification!!!! Merry Boxing Day Y’all!! 🍄💚🍄🩷🍄🌲🍄☄️🙏🏻

Firstly, apologies for my terrible Swedish 😂😅 I’ve been practicing Swedish for three years every single day on a well known language app… however I’ve discovered progress is slow due to deafness and dyslexia!! I’m trying so hard! Anyway here Creature shows just how amazingly camouflaged ”winter chanterelles” are! Cantherellus tubaeformis is one of the best and often most abundant food sources in the mushroom world. If you can see them 🤦🏻🍄😅💚🙏🏻
