I keep seeing shots of colour in amongst the damp dark forest floor ... the photos don't do them justice but the sublime purple catkins of the mighty Alder tree (Alnus glutinosa) shone out this morning, cheering my heart and mind. Last photo is a Hazel catkin for comparison. The Alder catkins are tightly closed at the moment, not ready to release their pollen. The Hazel catkins are fully open now, their lime yellow pollen blowing far and wide to ensure this Autumns hazelnut bounty 💕
