Today, on National Biscuit Day, we took on the very important job of taste testing a range of biscuits here at Hawthorn Court in search of the ultimate winner 🍪
There was lots of serious discussion around important biscuit qualities including dunkability, the all-important snap test and, of course, fillings! Everyone had their favourites and after plenty of tasting and voting, the residents had spoken…
🥁 Drum roll please…
AND THE WINNER IS… the good old Fig Roll! 👑
With the Nice biscuit coming a very close second and the classic Custard Cream taking third place.
The afternoon continued with our biscuit theme as we got creative decorating shortbread rounds with swirls of buttercream and sprinkles. A lovely day full of tasty treats and laughter 🍪✨

This week’s trip saw us take Margaret & Alex for a lovely run along the coast to Seaham, taking in some beautiful views along the way. We enjoyed a delicious pub lunch of bangers & mash at The Hollymere before heading back, pointing out all the local places of interest on the journey home. A lovely day out with great company and plenty to see! 😊

Just a little update to say Thank You to all our knitters out there who have knit poppies for us & donated red wool. It is all sooo much appreciated, donations still very much welcomed, the more poppies we get the more spectacular our rememberance day display will be.

Here at Hawthorn Court, we would love to create a spectacular display for Remembrance Sunday, and we’re asking for your help.
Some of our lovely residents have already begun knitting poppies, but we would really appreciate any support from fellow knitters or local knitting clubs to help us bring this display to life.
We have a simple knitting pattern available, which I will share in the comments. Any knitted poppy donations would be gratefully received and can be dropped off at reception at Hawthorn Court.

Our weekly men’s club was a busy one this week, packed with 3 fab games and plenty of laughs! We kicked things off with a beanbag toss challenge, with the gents split into 2 teams. Everyone had 4 beanbags each and aimed to get as many as possible into the bucket. After 4 competitive rounds, it was too close to call and ended in a draw!
Next up was a few lively games of Play Your Cards Right, where each ‘contestant’ had to guess whether the next card would be higher or lower. The room was full of “ooooohs” and “aaaaahs” as everyone got right behind the action, with plenty of laughs along the way.
To finish, we had a speedy round of target practice — 6 balls each, highest score wins! There was lots of concentration, friendly competition and cheering each other on. After all that excitement, the tea trolley arrived just in time for a very welcome cuppa and a slice of cake 🍰☕ A great afternoon enjoyed by all!

Tuesday saw a warm welcome back for John from Shhufle Silent Disco, and once again he went down a storm! 🎧🪩 With a fantastic choice of music and his famous pom pom shakers, everyone got involved — even a few residents enjoyed the disco from the comfort of their own rooms through the headphones. We boogied, toe tapped, sang our hearts out, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. What a fantastic afternoon full of music, laughter and smiles! 💃🕺🎶😊

Our Knit & Natter session on Tuesday was an absolute hoot! 🧶🤣 The main topic of conversation was men — the good’uns, the bad’uns, and everything in between, which certainly kept everyone entertained! A little bit of knitting may have happened too… but the chatting definitely stole the show

A bit of 10 pin bowling kept everyone in the Oak Lounge entertained 🎳 Plenty of cheers, laughs and a little friendly competition as we took turns aiming for strikes and spares. A lovely activity that got everyone involved and having fun together 😊

On Monday we had a little look around Hebburn New town, did a little bit of shopping, got a bit of fresh air & had a cuppa & biscuit, then much to Margaret's delight we bumped into one of her old next door neighbours🌞☕️ 🧡
