To mark World Diabetes Day and Diabetes Awareness Month in the UK, all this week we’re offering diabetes training to our nurses and carers to ensure they can support our service users to manage their diabetes.

Check out our blog about how our carers can support service users with diabetes, including some tips on spotting the symptoms and how to support someone with diabetes.

Our branches are making a difference to service users and their communities every day. Here are just some of the recent moments they've captured:

October carer of the month shout outs to:
1.⭐ Akinyemi from the Dundee branch who helped a service user prepare for his daughter's wedding, keeping him calm and getting him ready to attend. He even went through his speech with him. Inspirational Akin! 🤩
⭐Rose from the Wirral branch who helped when a client was choking. Thank you for your swift action Rose. 💜
⭐Carly from the Colwyn Bay branch for going above and beyond for everyone she cares for. Thank you for giving 110% Carly! 🎉
2. ⭐Elisha from the South Tyneside branch, who was brand new to care when she started and always receives fabulous feedback and compliments from the service users. Fantastic work Elisha!👏
⭐Olufunmilola from the Leeds branch who goes above and beyond for all the service users she attends. Her team say she is resilient and an exceedingly good carer. Well done Lola!👍

3. Nightingale Lodge enjoyed their training last week. Nicole was a great trainer, engaging the participants, and thanks to Marie who was the willing victim for the trainees! 😅

4. At Bramble Court one of our residents, John, serenaded everyone with some old classics and sing along tunes on his piano. John had even composed his own song to mark the anniversary of D-Day. John is relatively new at Bramble Court and it took a lot of courage to get up and perform. Well done, John! 🎹

5. The team in Yorkshire found a novel way to get their Christmas tree out, decorating it for Remembrance Day.

6. Remembrance at Nightingale Lodge. The Royal British Legion visited as the team recognised some of the residents would not be able to get out to purchase their own poppies. Residents also appreciated the remembrance tree with pictures of the residents lost in the past year.

7. Everyone at The Lodge had a fa-boo-lous time at Hallowe'en with apple bobbing, Hallowe'en bingo, scary buffet, and a Hallowe'en quiz, followed by a few dance moves on the floor! 👻

8. Care Coordinator Anne from our Wirral branch celebrated her 60th birthday with the team. Hope you've enjoyed your birthday celebrations Anne 🎂

9. A 12 months of service award went to Nadim from our Colwyn Bay branch. Congratulations Nadim! 👍

10. Congratulations to Audrey Donaldson from the Central Scotland branch on the completion of her SVQ in Health and Social Care. Very well done Audrey! 🎓

11. Our Wirral branch received a lovely thank you from a service user's family. Sadly he recently passed away, but the family wanted to thank everyone for the support they received during his final weeks.

12. These are just a few of the blankets gifted to Pinderfields NICU, collected by the team in the Leeds branch to help keep tiny premature babies warm this winter.
Thank you to everyone that gifted blankets to the appeal. 👶

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we will remember them.

Today at Cera we will observe the two minutes silence as part of our Nationwide call.

Across the UK our carers have been helping our service users to commemorate. At Nightingale Lodge the Royal British Legion were invited to visit so that clients could purchase poppies, and the Lodge was decorated to mark Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day.

Whilst the anniversary has its roots in remembering the huge loss of life during World War One, today it is used to remember all those who have died in conflict since.

At Cera, we recognise the service and sacrifice of our armed forces community and we have made a commitment to supporting veterans and the wider armed forces family through the Armed Forces Covenant, having pledged our support and attained a Bronze Award in its Employer Recognition Scheme.

The team in Yorkshire were delighted to receive a thank you card from a service user and their family last week.😊

Harry needed an emergency care package when he was discharged from hospital. His son wrote to thank our carers for their professional care, delivered in a friendly and cheerful manner at a time when the family were in difficult circumstances.

If you’re passionate about making a difference, we’re hiring now! Join our dedicated team and help us continue to provide exceptional care to people like Harry across the UK 🌟⠀

We know that our branches are doing amazing things every day and making a difference in their communities. Here are just a few of the recent moments some of our branches have captured and shared:⠀

1. One of our Clinical Lead nurses Francheska has received a gift from a client's family as a thank you for everything she has done to support their clinically vulnerable child. Well done Francheska 💜

2. Congratulations to Jane from our Forth Valley branch on successfully achieving her level 2 qualification in health and social care this week! ⭐

3. After being housebound for 2 years, one of our service users had his wish granted to see his favourite football team, Plymouth Argyle, live in action. Thanks to a local taxi company and a dedicated Plymouth branch carer, he was able to enjoy the game in person. The team surprised him with a brand-new Argyle scarf to complete the experience. This was all part of our branch “Make a Wish”, reminding us of the power of small acts of kindness ⚽

4. Our Walton-on-Thames branch enjoyed celebrating Black History Month through the flavours, colours, and culture of Africa and the Caribbeans. It was great to see you all enjoying traditional dishes and embracing the beauty of African attire! 🌍

Did you know? Menopause is forcing women to leave the workforce. At any given time, at least 60,000 women are out of work long-term sick because of menopause.

This has a huge, lasting impact on women’s health, wellbeing and finances, damaging gender equality at home and at work. It also costs the economy £1.5 billion a year.

As a large employer of almost 8,500 women, Cera is committed to supporting women at every stage of life. We are proud to have a negative gender pay gap of -3.9%, meaning women at Cera on average earn more than men. 84% of our staff are women, and 50% of our management team are women.

🌸 Cera is also a member of the Menopause Friendly Association, offering enhanced care, resources, flexibility and support for women going through menopause.

And we want to do everything we can to stop menopause from harming our employees’ careers.

How are we doing this?

🚀 Last week, on World Menopause Day, we launched Cera Women: an employee resource group dedicated to empowering women with financial autonomy, equal career opportunities, peer support and expert guidance throughout their careers, including during menopause.

🚀 Our newly updated menopause policy encourages staff to communicate with their manager if they’re struggling with symptoms, and have the option to make adjustments to their working arrangements.

🚀 We also rolled out our Menopause Champions Programme, offering training and support to help our workforce better understand menopause and how to support colleagues experiencing it.

An incredible number of employees volunteered to become menopause champions, and here are a few reasons why they’re so passionate about this role!

Another week of amazing things from the teams here at Cera. We love celebrating the achievements, activities and awards across our branches each week. Here are just some of the recent moments our teams have shared:⠀

1. Congratulations to Deirdre who recently completed her annual refresher training in our Staffordshire and Stoke branch! Ensuring our teams offer the highest standard of care is made possible by their dedication to constantly keep their skills up-to-date 💜

2. Well done to the lovely Lisa on passing her level 4 advanced people handling and risk assessment key training. We're so proud of you Lisa 🎉

3. Sometimes care goes beyond the day-to-day support our teams provide. Our Rotherham branch recently discovered a service user suffering from financial difficulty and struggling to afford essentials. As a branch they have rallied together to collect for him so he doesn't go without. We are so proud of the generous people here at Cera 💜

4. Both service users and carers have been working hard to support our Leeds branch "blankets for babies" appeal for their local NICU. It's amazing to see the kindness in our communities 👶

5. Well done to Carer of the Month Jessica! The team said "Jessica has been working for us since 2022 and being one of our youngest carers, has overcome challenges due to her age. She has shown commitment and determination in her role, always going above and beyond." 🌟

6. Supporting our staff to continually develop is something we are passionate about. Congratulations to Ellie on completing her Care Certificate ⭐

This week our branch teams were celebrating Work Bestie Day by sharing photos of the people they love working with:

7. Fantastic picture sent in from Catherine and Stephanie in Central Scotland. Catherine said, "We don't always work together but are work besties none the less!"

8. Our Colwyn Bay branch shared a great compilation of photos showing the work besties from across their care team!

9. Lothians branch enjoyed celebrating Work Bestie Day together in the office!

10. Our Leeds branch shared photos of their work family. Lovely to see you all Victoria, Florentina, Marie, Jordan and Jessica!

💡 Did you know? Menopause impacts women for the rest of their lives—not just while they are going through it.

📊 Cera has built one of the world’s largest datasets on how people are ageing. To mark , we’re sharing some eye-opening data on how menopause causes women to age differently from men.

Certain health conditions disproportionately affect women after menopause. Just two of these are osteoarthritis and osteoporosis, which are both linked to an increased risk of falling. Our data shows:

▶️ Over 72% of our patients with osteoarthritis are women.

▶️ More than 80% of our patients living with osteoporosis are women.

▶️Falls disproportionately affect women: almost two-thirds of over-65s who experience a fall are women.

▶️People with osteoporosis or osteoarthritis are more likely to experience long-term complications or even death after a fall. At Cera, we’re harnessing preventative tech and AI to improve how women age. Our Falls Prevention AI uses advanced algorithms to predict 83% of falls before they happen, reducing falls by at least 25%. We’re also using technology to advance healthcare research for over-65s.

Reducing the health inequalities women face during menopause and beyond is an important part of this 🌸

They said they have had a great turnout already. Well done to everyone involved! 💉
