Equal Care Co-op

Equal Care Co-op Putting the power of care and support back in the hands of those who give and receive it.

Equal Care Co-op is a care and support co-operative, currently operating in Calderdale in West Yorkshire and in Hackney, London. We facilitate caregiving relationships, focusing on the quality of the caring relationships going on in people's lives and helping them to flourish. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and we offer a broad variety of support to adults of all ages at home and in the community. We have experience working with conditions such as dementia, Parkinson's and MND and we work with people who are neurodivergent. We think that the quality of the caring relationships in people's lives are the single biggest factor in both getting and giving excellent care and support. People getting support choose who supports them and people giving support do too. We work on the basis of consent and mutual care and we aim for brave, honest and kind in the way we approach support.

We're posting on behalf of a friend of Equal Care, Nadia, who is looking for female Personal Assistant Support Workers to join her team.

Nadia is a deaf, disabled woman in her 30s, living life on her own terms in Halifax, West Yorkshire. She's building a brilliant team to support her independence - at home, in the community, and at gigs and social events.

This isn't a job with Equal Care, but we're helping Nadia spread the word. Full details are in the image below, but if you think this could be for you, or know someone who might be a great fit, please share widely!

🏋️‍♀️ Comprehensive training and ongoing support
🤲 The chance to be part of care teams where power and decision-making are shared by those receiving and giving support

We’re still recruiting for this small team in Hebden Bridge. There are hours ready to go, and we’re looking for people who share our relationship-centred approach to care - especially those experienced in supporting autistic people or people with a PDA profile.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you:

If you have experience in care and support – particularly supporting autistic people or people with a PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance) profile – and you’re looking for work in Hebden Bridge, we’d love to chat with you!

There are plenty of hours available for people with the right experience and approach, and there may be two or three positions available within one team alone.

As a co-op that puts the relationship between the person giving and the person receiving support at the centre of everything we do, we work a little differently from other agencies. We’re changing the way care and support are understood and experienced.

We’re also a Real Living Wage Employer and offer free online training during onboarding, so you can work towards your Care Certificate even before you start.

💚 Join a care co-operative where you can work with us, not for us.

✨ Your very human skills still matter ✨

AI can help with tasks, but it can’t do what people can: connect, reassure, or offer steady, genuine empathy.

For some of the people we support, care looks like:
📝 help with letters and everyday admin
💬 grounding conversations
🧹 support with routines at home
🎧 sharing interests and bringing calm to busy days

We’re looking for patient, reliable people with good admin skills and strong boundaries - people who can be a steady presence without getting swept into someone’s stress or overwhelm.

If you’re someone who wants to help others get organised, feel supported, and stay on top of things, we’d love to hear from you.

Imagine a kind of care you can depend on - steady from day to day.

Imagine a kind of care where you get to know someone and share in their life, memories, and passions.

Imagine a kind of care that goes beyond the routine - one that recognises you as a person with social and emotional needs, looking for connection.

Imagine a kind of care where people don’t just get by, but flourish.

If, like us, you imagine a better kind of care - and want to see and feel what that looks like - we’d love to talk to you.
