and this week?

I got absolutely body-slammed by the flu.

Not a cute sniffle.

Not a “bit run down.”

Flat-out, horizontal, floored.

The kind of ill that forces you to stare at the ceiling and negotiate with your ancestors.

& my clients, gifting me grace.

Checking in on me whilst nursing new humans, recommending remedies, midwifing me 🤍

They are the best 💪🏻

🎄Tis the Season... for Higher Induction & C-Section Rates?!

(this still blows my mind every year)

The festive season is full of sparkle ✨ and joy 🫶

…but did you know it’s also prime time for a rise in labour inductions and planned C-sections?😮

Let’s talk about why Jesus Birthday shouldn’t dictate your birth choices-and why Your Private Midwife won’t be singing along to the “induction carol.”

Why the Statistical Surge? 🤔

Convenience: Hospitals and staff plan around
Christmas shifts, so there’s pressure to ‘schedule’ births before the bank holidays.

Myth of Control: There’s an idea that picking a date will avoid festive chaos-spoiler: babies rarely get the memo anyway!

🎄System Pressure: resource planning can sometimes
influence clinical recommendations.

But Here’s the Thing:
💬 Induction Isn’t Risk-Free: It’s a medical intervention that can lead to more interventions, like C-sections, & mum/baby trauma: particularly if your body or baby isn’t ready.

💬 Your Baby, Your Rhythm: Babies know when to make their debut. Trusting your natural physiology often leads to a smoother, more empowering experience. What’s the rush!

Pregnancy has this way of humbling even the most organised, spreadsheet-loving woman 🫣

I was reminded of that this week during a conversation with one of my families -the kind of chat that hits you right in the centre of why this work matters.

Because here’s the truth nobody prints on the pregnancy leaflets:
You cannot make a fully informed decision in a life event where nothing is fully black and white.
You can only make the best decision with the evidence, instincts, and context you have in the moment.

And that isn’t failure. That’s life.

That’s the entire human experience of bringing a baby into the world.

The goal isn’t to collect perfect choices, wrap them in glitter & win an award or have a blissful outcome…that’s superhero vibes & no body can promise you that

(If they do RED FLAG 🚩 & RUN!!)

The goal is to be held, guided, and supported while you make the ones that are right for you, with no pressure, no performance, and no pretending certainty exists where it simply doesn’t.

That’s the heart of relationship-based midwifery 🤍

Not guaranteeing the “right” path- but giving you the space, nuance, and unfiltered truth you deserve while you walk it, even in the gritty, heavy hard stuff!

Pregnancy isn’t a test you get to pass.

It’s a constantly evolving landscape. It’s the reaping ground for parenthood where the navigation skills are DofE gold vibes (IYKYK) 😉

And you shouldn’t have to navigate that alone.

Private midwifery exists for exactly this:
Care that adapts as your reality does.
A steady voice in the grey areas.
Support that moves with you -not against you.

This is the work.
