💉 Weight Loss Injections & Birth Control: What You Need to Know

Thinking about using weight loss injections like Wegovy, Ozempic, Saxenda or Mounjaro? It’s important to understand how they could affect your contraception — especially the pill!

👉 Wegovy, Ozempic & Saxenda
These injections don’t directly affect how your contraceptive pill works. BUT — if you have vomiting or diarrhoea after taking your pill, your body might not absorb it properly. In these cases, use extra contraception (like condoms) for 7 days.

👉 Mounjaro
Mounjaro can slow how your body absorbs the pill — meaning the pill may not protect you as well as usual. You should use condoms or another form of protection for at least 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro or increasing your dose.
💡 Consider switching to long-acting methods (e.g. implant, coil, injection) that aren’t affected by Mounjaro.

⚠️ Why this matters?
Weight loss injections aren’t safe in pregnancy. It’s vital to use reliable contraception throughout your treatment.
