Today we were in the village of Luss on the banks of Loch Lomond caring for a well loved and known villager who had lived in the village for over sixty years. Christians though have been gathering to worship and bury their dead at this spot since around 510ad. There is even a Viking grave in the churchyard dating from around 1260.

A special evening on Tuesday 18th February at Helensburgh Parish Church when the Rev. Sue MacGregor was inducted as the new Minister. It was a truly special evening rounded off in true Church of Scotland tradition with tea, sandwiches and home baking in the Church Hall.

Best wishes to Sue in this new chapter of her Ministry. Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh loss is Helensburgh’s gain.

As we are all aware, there is a red weather warning in place for Scotland for most of tomorrow Friday 24th January. Red weather warnings are not issued lightly.

Most Crematoriums and Cemeteries in Central Scotland are closed so funerals we have scheduled for Friday 24th January have been postponed. I am at this point trying to reschedule services to take place on Saturday 25th, website notices and page will be updated during the course of the evening.

The office will not open tomorrow, but I am contactable by telephone and email. Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.

On this Christmas Eve I would like to take this opportunity to wish all a very peaceful Christmas.

Never an easy time for families who have been bereaved, especially those facing a first Christmas without a loved one and those who have lost loved ones in years past at Christmas and find celebrating difficult.

Since it opened in 2007, we have from time to time visited this natural burial ground in Stirlingshire. On our first visit there was only a handful of saplings planted. In the winter following their burial in a biodegradable coffin a young tree is planted over the grave. It has taken a bit of vision to envisage how it would develop. It’s now showing a bit of maturity. Today was a truly spectacular day to lay a much loved, husband, father, grandfather and friend to rest. It was also an opportunity to pause and remember some very special friends we have buried in this beautiful place.
