FIRST AID FOR REMOTE & LONE WORKERS

First aid skills for workers who work away from the place where the official First Aider is. Courses can be tailored to the duration required and the most likely emergency scenarios for your type of work.

EASY TO ACCESS, EASY TO AFFORD, EASY TO LEARN

ABOUT THIS COURSE
Most businesses have a requirement to have a certain number of people trained and available to provide first aid to their employees as required. But what if you work alone, or work away from where this first aid support is?

Having a basic knowledge of first aid for those times when you’re working alone (perhaps with your own client) or when you’re working at a site away from where your main first aider is could make a huge difference for you or the people around you.

TRAINING TO SUIT YOU
Of course every business is different, and the first aid situations you may face will be different too. By using menu base first aid training you can select the topics which are most relevant to you and also select how long you want to spend on your training – right from 90 minutes (1 or 2 basics) right up to 5 hours where we’ll get to cover many different subjects and set you up to respond to many emergencies. This type of training is ideal for refreshers too.

KIDS LEARN FIRST AID

It’s never too early to start learning essential first aid skills. Learning first aid can be a real confidence booster as well as preparing them to respond should they encounter an emergency.

Kids can do more than we sometimes give them credit for. With children as young as two successfully making 999 calls and saving a parent or carers life it seems there may be no such thing as “too young” when it comes to teaching our children about first aid.

AGE-APPROPRIATE ADAPTED TRAINING
It’s true, young children may not have the strength needed to carry out, for example, CPR on an adult. Neither should they be expected to carry out hours of detailed training. Even so a lot can be achieved in just an hour or two covering some basic principles such as:-

How to recognise an emergency
How to make a 999 call
Checking for an open airway and breathing
The recovery position
Dealing with cuts, bruises and minor burns
Quality training equipment

LONG TERM BENEFITS
We’re not aiming to create mini-first aid experts in day, but this type of training lays an important foundation for future learning, helps young people build confidence and might even give a child the skills to save a life.

Special rates available for Brownie, Cubs, Guides & Scout Groups, Young Farmers and Schools. Sessions can be tailored to support the achievement of badges or other awards.

Tailored to age and specific aims

Do I Need First Aid Training for My Business?
The law which addresses the provision of first aid equipment and personnel in the workplace is the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulation of 1981 which states that employers must provide workplace first aid cover that is adequate and appropriate.
As workplaces can differ widely this might appear to be vague, and it can be difficult to know whether you are legally compliant or not.
The first step is to consider what your first aid needs might be. HSE recommendations are that for low level hazard areas (e.g., office or shops) with less than 25 employees, only one appointed person may be suitable. For businesses with between 25 and 50, then at least one EFAW* first aider is needed. If more than 50 people are employed, then at least one first aider trained in FAW** for every 100 employed is recommended.
In higher level hazard environments (e.g., food processing or chemical manufacture), then at least one appointed person is required if there are fewer than five employees. For 5 to 50, at least one first aider trained in FAW or EFAW (depending on the type of potential injuries) is suggested. When the number of employees exceeds 50, at least one first aider trained in FAW for every 50 employed.
*EFAW – Emergency First Aid at Work – 1 day course
**FAW – First Aid at Work – 3-day course
