🍏BACK TO BASICS for 2026! 🍏

❓How well are you digesting and absorbing nutrients?

Your digestive tract is around 5.5 metres long - the food you eat goes from your mouth, through your throat and oesophagus, to your stomach, then into your small intestine and large intestines and out the other end!

To ensure you are taking in all the nutrients your body needs, you need to be able to break down foods (chewing, digestion with enzymes, bile and stomach acid), and absorb them.

Here are some things to consider:

🍏Digestive enzymes are made from protein.
🍏Bile is made from cholesterol and a by-product of old red blood cells.
🍏Stomach acid requires zinc.
🍏Digestion and absorption of vitamin B12 needs good stomach acid and digestive enzymes.

You literally need to use the protein, fats, vitamins and minerals from your food to digest and make use of the protein, fats, vitamins and minerals from your food! And we used to think diet and nutrition was all about calories-in-calories-out 🙉.

If you have any kind of digestive issue, from inflammation from IBS, gallstones, GORD, Coeliac disease to Chrohn's or Ulcerative colitis, your absorption of key nutrients is likely to be compromised.

In fact, if you are taking any medication - diabetes meds, PPIs or antacids, the contraceptive pill, statins, steroids, blood pressure meds, aspirin, levothyroxine - your digestion and nutrient absorption may need additional support.

Think of protein - it might be that you're eating enough, but you are not able to make use of it. Protein is needed for antibodies, we need it to make hormones, and blood clotting enzymes, we need it for structures of bone and joints, skin hair and nails, we need it for fluid balance, and of course we do need it for muscle mass.

👉So do you need expensive immune supplements, herbal hormone supplements, collagen supplements and protein powders, new skin regimes and a gallon of water a day, or do you need to just be digesting your meals better?? 👈

I've seen alot already this year promoting good health through pills and powders - but can't help thinking it's not necessary if you eat a decent diet and have an efficient digestion..... it's just that after years of not eating very well, it's the efficient digestion people are lacking.

😎It is possible to get your digestion re-trained and back online - give me a shout if you'd rather spend your time and money on enjoying real food again! 🍲

HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS!! 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣6️⃣💚

I woke up this morning to a smattering of snow and beautiful sunshine. I love this view, from the edge of our local park where I walked the dog this morning - so lovely to see open farmland, the South Downs, the wind turbines at Pevensey, and you can even see the South Cliff Tower on Eastbourne's seafront if you look carefully. I don't do new year's resolutions but if I did it would be something around appreciating our wonderful countryside more, and doing more to protect it before it all turns into housing estates.

xx

🥕Carotenoids🥕

This stunning display of autumn colour is the rowan tree in my garden. 🧡

What you’re seeing is the bioflavonoids that protect the leaves from the sun, specifically the caretonoids like beta carotene and alpha carotene, as well as lutein.

These pigments are present in all leaves all the time, we only get to see them when the chlorophyll fades though, it’s been under the green the whole time!

So when you eat green leaves like spinach, lettuce and rocket, chard and kale, you can know that you’re consuming a lovely dose of carotenoids. They’re also in carrots, butternut squash, apricots, sweet potato and pumpkins 🎃

And the magical thing is, we convert these into vitamin A, specifically retinol, retinal and retinoic acid, which protects our skin and eyes from sun damage - just like it protected the plant while it was growing 🪄✨🧡

2) the wind has brought down lots of beautiful chestnuts and I filled my pockets just now out walking the dog 🐶
3) now I’ve got to find out how to cook them as I haven’t successfully done this yet in my adult life without the open fire we used to have growing up 🤦🏻‍♀️

I am Tiffany, a Naturopathic Nutritional Therapist. I work with a wide range of clients, with one thing in common: they want to feel better in themselves and want to do it naturally.

Social media can make you feel overwhelmed with wellness products you Must Buy, exercises you Must Do and superfoods and supplements you Must Take. Do you really need to??

My aim is to provide no-nonsense evidence-based advice. I work naturopathically so I connect all your body systems together, holistically. I pass on my knowledge of the nutrients in everyday foods and how they benefit health, we can then introduce herbs, superfoods, medicinal mushrooms, orthomolecular compounds or other supplements to ensure your body has the cellular building blocks and nurturing terrain it needs for healing and health.

With my clients, I use my expertise to find supplements and foods that work within the constraints you live by everyday, that may make staying healthy more of a challenge, such as health conditions and medication, family life, work.

Just quickly popping in to say that President Trump said today that taking paracetamol in pregnancy and vaccines cause autism.

This is misinformation. There are studies of millions of births which show that this is not the case.

Yes, there has a been a huge rise in autism diagnoses over the last 45 years. That's because the diagnostic criteria have radically changed. It used to be a rare diagnosis only given to children with severe learning disabilities, it's now quite a common diagnosis given to many people with and without learning disabilities. The people who are being diagnosed with autism today would, for the most part, not have met diagnostic criteria in the 1980s.

Autism is a umbrella term which includes a very wide range of people. Scientists agree that there will never be a single cause identified because autistic people are so different to each other.

It's fear-mongering to start blaming paracetamol and vaccines.

🌼 St John’s Wort & Perimenopause Mood Support

For many women, perimenopause isn’t just about hot flushes or sleep changes — mood shifts, irritability, and low mood can feel just as challenging.

One herbal remedy that’s often discussed is St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum). 🌿

Why it’s used:

✨ Traditionally taken to support mild to moderate low mood

✨ May help reduce feelings of anxiety and tension

✨ Sometimes combined with other herbs (like Black Cohosh) in supplements designed for menopause support

Important to know:

⚠️ St John’s Wort can interact with lots of common medications (including antidepressants, contraceptive pill, HRT, and even some painkillers).

⚠️ Always check with your nutritional therapist, GP or pharmacist before taking it.

⚠️ Look for THR-registered products in the UK — this means they meet safety and quality standards.

👉 If mood changes are something you’ve noticed in perimenopause, you’re not alone. Lifestyle strategies like regular movement, nourishing food, good sleep hygiene, and stress management all make a difference too — and herbal support can be one piece of the puzzle. 💛

🌿Evening Primrose Oil & Symptom Relief

Evening Primrose Oil is another herbal-based option many people explore during perimenopause. It’s rich in GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), a fatty acid that may help with skin changes, breast tenderness, mood shifts, and possibly reduce the severity of night sweats.

What to look for: cold-pressed oil, reputable brand, correct dosage. Some people notice effects after a few weeks.

Like all herbal remedies, it’s best used thoughtfully—share any plans with your nutritional therapist or GP, especially if you’re on other medications.
