With another heatwave forecast, I wanted to take a moment to share some essential sun safety advice to help you enjoy the sunshine while protecting your skin. I’ve recently completed additional training with MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection), an organisation dedicated to raising awareness of the signs of skin cancer. Signs of skin cancer, such as changing moles, are easily missed especially on hard-to-see areas such as your back and soles of your feet, so I can help you keep an eye on the health of your skin each time you come for a treatment. If there’s anything you’d like me to check out for you then please ask - I’ve checked a few moles this week during appointments!
☀️ Sun Safety Essentials:
• Always wear a high SPF broad-spectrum sun cream, even on cloudy days.
• Reapply sun cream every 2 hours, and after swimming or sweating.
• Wear protective clothing, sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.
• Seek shade between 11am and 3pm when the sun is strongest.
🌿 Skin Changes to Look Out For:
Early detection saves lives. Please check your skin regularly and look out for:
• Moles or freckles that change in size, shape or colour
• New growths or sores that don’t heal
• A mole that looks different from your others (the “ugly duckling” sign)
• Any itching, bleeding or crusting.
If you notice anything unusual, please see your GP as soon as possible and ask for a referral to a dermatologist if necessary.
