My apologies for the lack of social media posts, but I have been having the best time connecting with new clients and reconnecting with those I used to train.

In addition to being more disciplined with the frequency of my social media posting, I have decided to publish a monthly bulletin “Massage and Movement Monthly”! This is the first edition!

I am also going to create a blog with regular posts, focusing on everyday issues. Whether it be managing a chronic health condition through exercise, how to include physical activity within busy lifestyles, or even what to wear whilst working out, I’ve got you covered. Watch this space for more information.

If you are looking to start, resume or continue your fitness and wellbeing journey, please get in touch. I offer beginner focused personal training and sports massage therapy, ensuring you always achieve and progress at a rate you are comfortable with.

I am qualified to train adults and children, and have undertaken additional training so I can instruct those living with chronic health conditions.

What a fantastic view to enjoy outside the gym!

I had the pleasure of training a client this morning who is starting their health and fitness journey. We are very lucky to be able to offer training in a fully equipped gym but also have access to lots of outdoor space!

I couldn’t help but smile as I stepped outside to this stunning view!

Let's talk about qualifications and insurance!

Did you know, a Personal Training qualification only allows a trainer to design programmes and instruct a healthy person with no chronic health conditions?

What does this mean?

If you are living with a chronic health condition, such as, obesity, diabetes, asthma, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, COPD, CHD, lower back pain, osteoporosis, stress, anxiety, depression or a joint replacement, you require a carefully structured training programme that aims to help manage and in most cases, improve your condition.

Why is this important?

Because there are certain exercises you should NOT be doing with some health conditions, and some you really SHOULD! And ultimately, all training programmes should be safe, appropriate and effective.

Who can help?

At a minimum, practitioners should hold a Level 3 Exercise Referral qualification to train anyone living with a chronic health condition. However, if someone is super morbidly obese, has a serious mental health, heart, neurological or respiratory condition, the practitioner must hold a Level 4 Specialist qualification.

Insurance...

A practitioner is only insured to deliver the activities they hold qualifications for...

My qualifications...

I have studied hard to achieve qualifications that best meet the needs of the clients I have trained over 10 years of fitness instructing, personal training and sports rehabilitation, and yet, nobody has ever asked me for them!!!

Amongst my certifications, I hold Level 4 Specialist qualifications in Obesity and Diabetes, Mental Health and Respiratory Conditions.

Check out my qualifications here: https://www.mullionfitness.co.uk/about

If you would like to discuss how I can help you improve your chronic health condition with a suitable physical activity programme, please get in touch to book a FREE consultation.

THE GOOD INSTRUCTOR.

My journey into being an instructor, and then personal trainer, was inspired by the lovely Nicky. I joined Carn Brea to swim, but later decided to try a class. I hid at the back of the class, afraid of being seen.

Nicky had a wonderful way of teaching and when personal motivation waned, the good instructor draws you back in.

They get to know your name and then know YOU.

The good instructor knows their class, knows when to push and when to offer that easier option. You’re not just a number on their class list, you are part of the instructors heart.

The good instructor adapts their style to suit the group and makes the class one that everyone can thrive.

The good instructor does more than delivers a class, they create a social connection where friendships can be made and people can be themselves and feel comfortable.

Nicky epitomised who I wanted to be.

This morning I was delighted to go back for Nicky’s final Bodybalance class. I will definitely be feeling this tomorrow. It was so lovely to see the familiar faces I’d seen regularly until I had baby JP and started taking the business full time.

Nicky became part of the business teaching Aqua, Pilates and yoga for us for a time.

If you want to improve your core strength or enjoy one of Nicky’s classes, she is still teaching Aqua and Pilates at Carn Brea, or runs Pilates at King Edward mine Troon (next to the Croust hut).

If you fancy making a sea glass picture, Nicky has fabulous workshops too.

Thank you Nicky for all your inspiration to make me an instructor.

INTERNATIONAL SELF-CARE DAY.

Self-care, when done right, is a healing tonic that counteracts the intensity of modern living.

Self-care is putting yourself first and meeting your own needs.

Self-care is recharging the batteries doing something that is positive for mind and body.

Self-care is a detox, setting aside the things that are stressors in our lives and focusing on wellness.

Self-care is a necessity, if we fail to keep ourselves afloat we cannot help others, something people forget.

It’s OK to prioritise YOU.

It’s OK to take a TIMEOUT.

It’s OK to REST, both mentally and physically.

It’s OK to say NO.

Make time for the things you need to do to love yourself a little more.

Today I will be spending an hour atop a horse, something that makes me happy and nurtures my mental and physical health.

What are you going to do today?

Strive for Progress, not Perfection.

THANK YOU.

Thank you all for your comments and kind words.

Our website is now closed and these social media pages will be deleted from 1st August.

Now is the time if you want to scroll back and relive any of the fabulous memories we have made over the last 10 years.

Moving forward:

It’s not about the end point, it’s about the journey!

Love yourself exactly where you are today and work on improving your physical and mental health.

Do something you love, so many people think they have to do exercises they hate to achieve the perfection they crave. Doing something you enjoy means you’re more lovely to stick at it.

It’s ok to be a beginner, no one is born being able to play sport, lift heavy weight or run fast, we all have to take those journeys of improvement.

Don’t worry what others think, your journey is for you, worry about you.

Even professionals can improve something, so aim for progress.

Small things make a difference. If you can’t commit to everything you want, do one thing a week and build.

Start easy, or return easy, so many want to be doing more than their current capabilities and it can result in injury. Be kind to yourself, small gains regularly. making a difference in the longer term.

Rest and recovery, you will not make good progress if you don’t prioritise rest, sleep, flexibility, mindfulness alongside your training.

Wherever your journey takes you, enjoy the ride.

Strive for Progress, not Perfection.

….AND THATS A WRAP!

Tonight marked my last session and the end of an era.

Closing a business for any reason is hard, and making this choice was not easy, but full time employment is calling me.

The hardest part of the decision is leaving the people behind.

We didn’t create a business with customers, we created a family. Those who attended became family and friends, thus etching themselves into our lives more deeply than any customer could.

Thank you to you all for the memories and the fun & laughter. I will treasure this always.

I appreciate all the offers to meet up - some clearly thinking I need to run, others thinking I need tea and cake - perhaps it should be all of the above? 🏃‍♀️ 🫖 🍰

Wherever your fitness journey takes you, I am sure you will still hear me in your ear telling you to keep your headlights on 🍩🍩 or squeeze your glutes 🍑

Strive for Progress, not Perfection.

Much love Jane 😘
