Some of you may remember Shell from our running club days… and it’s brilliant to see her lacing up her trainers again and getting back into running. 🏃‍♀️

This time she has a very important supervisor with her — her daughter, who comes along in the buggy to make sure Mum is doing everything properly! 👶

Right now the focus is building Shell’s strength and stamina so she can run comfortably and consistently again. Once that foundation is in place, the plan is to start introducing running with the buggy too.

Alongside her running, Shell is putting in the work with strength and conditioning training in the gym. I programme her sessions, but she completes them independently — showing real commitment to the process. 💪

With 2 running coaching sessions each week and 2–3 strength and conditioning sessions on her own, Shell has built a well-rounded programme that supports both performance and resilience.

Lucy’s goal when she started personal training wasn’t aesthetics. It wasn’t a number on the scales. It was wellbeing.

Since then, she has fully embraced the process.

We’ve incorporated a variety of training modalities to support both her physical and mental health — bodyweight strength work to build control and resilience, kettlebell sessions to develop confidence and progressive overload, and… a return to running 🏃‍♀️

The key has been balance. Structured strength training to improve robustness. Cardiovascular work to support heart health and mood. Recovery strategies to keep everything sustainable.

And of course, we can’t ignore her most consistent training partner — Jiji the cat 🐾 Whether supervising floor exercises, weaving through cooldown stretches, or adding an extra challenge to planks, Jiji is always close by making sure standards stay high.

Wellbeing isn’t one-dimensional — it’s built through consistency, variety, and doing things that make you feel capable.

Sunshine, fresh air and a TRX session ☀️💪

Roxy made the most of the good weather today, taking her training outdoors for a TRX workout. Using bodyweight exercises, the TRX allows us to build strength, stability and control while working at an intensity that suits the individual.

It’s a fantastic way to challenge balance, engage the core and develop functional strength — all while enjoying a bit of sunshine.

Proof that great training doesn’t always need heavy weights… sometimes you just need straps, bodyweight and a positive attitude. 🙌

Progress isn’t just about how things look — it’s about what we can measure.

When Rachel first came to me, her left ankle had been internally rotating for years. Following her fracture and surgery, the musculature through her lower leg became increasingly imbalanced. Over four years, that rotation worsened, affecting how she loaded through her foot and how confidently she could weight bear.

On 23rd December 2025, I carried out a structured fitness assessment using a goniometer to quantify her ankle range of motion.

📐 Left ankle internal rotation: 156°

Today, we reassessed.

📐 Left ankle internal rotation: 170°

That’s a 14-degree improvement — not guesswork, not “it feels better,” but objective, measurable progress.

Functionally, this change means her ankle is sitting straighter under load. She can now weight bear more evenly through her foot, which has directly improved her walking mechanics and confidence.

Assessments matter… They:
• Identify dysfunction
• Guide programming
• Remove emotion from decision-making
• Provide objective proof of progress

Rehabilitation and strength work is a process — and when you measure properly, you can see exactly how far someone has come.

Rachel’s journey is a perfect example of why data-driven coaching works.

Times like this are a good reminder to focus on the positives — and I’ve had plenty of those this week.

Our Story

Welcome to JP Fitness Cornwall, a professional fitness consultancy and UKA affiliated running club, primarily based in Helston.

We specialise in affordable, beginner-friendly fitness and have been established since December 2014. We deliver professional personal training and sports massage for those wanting individual attention. For group exercise we have a wide range of beginner-friendly fitness classes, including ante and post natal sessions, designed by a pregnancy specialist and daytime child friendly classes so you can bring your children with you to train.

Our running club is affiliated to UK Athletics and means you can affiliate to gain discounts off races and other services from partner organisations. Our Team JP runners are a great testament to our “Strive for Progress, not Perfection” ethos and always act like a team, despite running being an individual sport.

JP Fitness Cornwall are Exercise Referral qualified and can design bespoke training programs and adapt fitness classes for a range of health conditions including; Asthma Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Osteoarthritis Rheumatoid arthritis Joint replacement Simple mechanical back pain Osteoporosis Hypertension Hypercholesterolaemia Depression Stress Anxiety Diabetes Type I and Type 2 Obesity We offer flexible training blocks and single sessions.
