🌿✨ Welcoming Spring with a Special Tradition! ✨🌿
Today at Rivendell, we’re embracing the beautiful Romanian tradition of Mărțișor, thanks to our wonderful Care Coordinator, Alina! ❤️🤍
Mărțișor marks the arrival of spring, symbolising renewal, good luck, and joy. In support of Alina and her heritage, our team is proudly wearing red bracelets—because celebrating traditions together makes us stronger!
Wishing everyone a season full of growth, happiness, and fresh beginnings! 🌷🌞
What is Mărțișor?
Mărțișor is a traditional Romanian celebration held on March 1st, marking the arrival of spring. People exchange red and white braided threads, often with small charms, as a symbol of good luck, renewal, and prosperity. The tradition dates back thousands of years and is deeply rooted in Romanian and Moldovan culture, spreading to other parts of Eastern Europe as well.

💙 Why We Take Interviews Seriously at Rivendell 💙
When it comes to caregiving, we don’t just look at a CV—we look at the person behind it. At Rivendell Care & Support, we always apply the “Grandpa Test” before hiring a carer:
💭 Would we trust this person to look after someone we love the most?
If the answer isn’t a resounding YES, then they won’t be joining our team. Care isn’t just a job—it’s a responsibility, a privilege, and a calling.
🛡️ Key Qualities We Look For In Every Interview:
✔ Would you feel comfortable leaving your own loved one in this person’s care?
✔ Do they show kindness, patience, and empathy?
✔ How do they uphold dignity and respect in care?
✔ Do they understand safeguarding and how to protect vulnerable adults?
✔ Do they know about the Mental Capacity Act and how to ensure clients have choice?
✔ How would they handle an emergency situation?
✔ Can they recognise early signs of deterioration in a client’s health?
✔ Do they respect cultural, religious, and personal preferences?
✔ Would they go the extra mile to make someone feel safe and valued?
Finding the right carers isn’t just about experience—it’s about having the heart, knowledge, and integrity to care for someone as if they were their own family.
Because at Rivendell, care is personal. 💙

💙 This Half Term, Let’s Tackle Loneliness Together 💙
Half-term is a great time for family, fun, and making memories—but for many vulnerable adults, it can be a time of loneliness and isolation. A simple visit, phone call, or shared activity can bring so much joy and comfort to elderly loved ones, especially those who may be living alone or in care.
👵🏽 Why Visit Loved Ones This Half Term?
✔ Loneliness can impact mental & physical health—your visit could brighten someone’s whole week!
✔ Many elderly relatives, especially those with dementia, feel happiest when surrounded by familiar faces.
✔ Teaching children about compassion and connection is a beautiful way to strengthen family bonds.
🌟 Ideas for Family Visits & Volunteering:
💌 Make a Memory Box – Gather old photos, letters, or trinkets and talk about happy times.
🎨 Arts & Crafts – Painting, scrapbooking, or even decorating biscuits together can be fun and engaging.
🎵 Sing & Dance – Music is powerful for dementia patients—singing old songs can bring back memories.
🧩 Simple Games & Puzzles – Activities like playing dominoes or looking through magazines together can be soothing.
📖 Storytelling – Read a book or ask your loved one to share stories from their past—kids can learn so much!
🛋 Just Be There – Even sitting together watching a favorite show can mean the world.
Half-term is also a perfect time to volunteer at a local care home or community center. A small act of kindness can make a huge difference to someone who might not have many visitors.
✨ Challenge for this Half Term: Take a moment to visit, call, or spend time with someone who may be feeling lonely. A simple act of kindness can change a life.
Tag someone who should plan a family visit this half term! 🏡💖

Rivendell is a family run business. Managing director Joshua always dreamt of working in a socially rewarding field. One day when visiting his grandparents he witnessed his grandfather howling with laughter and joking around with his carer. With so much negativity in the press Joshua was surprised to see his grandpa having a great time, he was very quiet due to his Dementia and usually only opened up to very few people. This experience was the catalyst in starting a care agency coupled with Juliette’s experience in the charity sector.
When recruiting Rivendell adopt the “grandpa test”, would I let this person look after one of my family members?
Our Values:
- Our service users are at the heart of everything we do
