Setting sail for fun! ⚓️

Our residents at Abbeyfield House Great Missenden embarked on a fantastic adventure, trading our home for the peaceful waters of the Thames.

It was a day filled with perfect weather, tranquil views from our boat, and the simple pleasures of good company and homemade scones. The real treat was the laughter and smiles shared with friends while cruising past the beautiful scenery around Henley.

Get ready to be inspired!📖

At Abbeyfield, we love celebrating the incredible talents and accomplishments of our residents. Today, we're shining a spotlight on the amazing Julia Smith who lives with us at Fern House at Abbeyfield The Dales

A woman of many talents, Julia enjoyed a long and successful career as a librarian and has published two fascinating books. Her first, Fairs, Feasts and Frolics: Customs and Traditions in Yorkshire, is a deep dive into the unique culture of Britain's largest county.

Her second, The Elusive Father Brown, tells the remarkable true story of the priest who inspired G.K. Chesterton's famous fictional detective.

When she's not writing, Julia is often found enjoying the music at Fern House—and you can bet she's dancing!

We're so proud to have such a gifted author as part of our community. Read more about Julia's fascinating life and work on our blog:https://www.abbeyfield.com/blog/julia-lifts-the-lid-on-hidden-yorkshire-secrets/

Grab your passport and join the fun at Annett House! 🗺️🇫🇷

At Annett House, residents have been travelling the world through themed meals, decorations and shared stories.

Deputy House Manager, Annalee South, says, “Our around the world days are a wonderful way to encourage residents to try something new, and they always bring lots of smiles and laughter.

“We decorate the dining area to match the featured country and often add themed table settings and fun extras like quizzes. If any residents have visited that part of the world, they often enjoy sharing stories and memories, which sparks great conversation and helps build connections. It's a lovely way to learn more about each other and reminisce.

“We find these days really enrich our residents' experience and create a joyful, engaging atmosphere in their home.”

Some new art has arrived at The Grove 🎨

Abbeyfield Castle Farm & The Grove, Gosforth The Grove's conservatory has a beautiful new addition to its decor, and it was made entirely by our talented residents.

Introducing Jo, volunteer at Abbeyfield Wey Valley Society 💙

Jo is a friendly and experienced yoga and Pilates instructor who’s been hosting small classes at her studio for over 20 years. She also loves giving back by volunteering with a lovely group at St Paul’s Church, where she leads fun and energising exercise sessions inspired by FABS.

One day, while visiting a friend at Nower Care, Coleen (who used to attend the St Paul’s group) Jo had the idea to start classes for the residents.

After a warm welcome and a great first impression, Jo kindly offered to run a class every fortnight.

She said, “I initially found Nower Care very well organised and friendly, so was happy to volunteer. I have really enjoyed working with the staff, particularly Fleur, who has been super helpful! Sometimes I enjoy a cuppa with the residents afterwards”

A trip to 'The Longest Yarn' exhibition turned into a day of memories and awards for our residents and volunteers at Abbeyfield Saltash 🧶

They had a wonderful time exploring the incredible knitted and crocheted creations, sparking conversations about wartime and local history.

A special highlight was seeing a panel created by resident Doris’s daughter, Jo, which depicted the old Saltash Working Men's Club.

The day got even better when their community bus driver, Mike Finch, was presented with a special award from the Saltash Town Council for his 'Contribution to the Community'.

What a well-deserved recognition for the person who has helped residents get to so many local events!

Trust, community, and everyday essentials! 🛒

Residents at Abbeyfield House in Brecon have a fantastic new on-site "honesty shop".

The idea, which came from a discussion with residents, helps everyone get what they need—from tea and toothpaste to cleaning supplies and birthday chocolates—all while maintaining their independence.

House Manager Emma explains, "All the money we receive goes straight back into restocking the shop." It's not about profit; it's about making life easier for our residents and their families.

As resident Kate Bosset said, "It really is a bonus to be able to purchase things...all sorts! Very valuable."
