My Story

My curiosity with hypnobirthing began while I was pregnant with the first of my 2 brilliant children. My husband and I joined a local antenatal course and were beginning to positively picture the birth of our baby until one session changed this. The session was filled with negativity. It described continual interventions, painful contractions and medical jargon that totally stumped me. I couldn’t believe this was what my labour would turn out to be – painful and (the way they described it) an almost certain caesarean. I knew I didn’t want a caesarean, I knew I wanted to be able to manage my pain but what other options did I have?

It was at this point that someone approached me with the idea of hypnobirthing. I had no idea what it was but was compelled to investigate. It was then my mind was reopened to the idea of a beautiful, natural birth, free of complications that I could control.

My husband – the most pragmatic guy I know – even jumped on board and a week later and we were together learning about hypnobirthing, both of us blown away. It made us truly engage with the birth: we wrote our birth plans, practised our birth scripts and spread the positive message of hypnobirthing to anyone that would listen.

The study and practice paid off, I breathed out a 9.6lb baby boy then two years later an 8.13lb girl. Both births were beautiful and empowering and inspired me to share my knowledge of hypnobirthing to all expectant mothers. I wanted all parents to be able to look back on the birth of their baby with such positivity and empowerment.
