The Village Nurse

The Village Nurse For the last 3 years I have been working in the Special Care Baby Unit. That is why I set up The Village Nurse.

Every parent that comes through SCBU is given support, advice and education that I believe should be available to all new mothers. I have been a qualified paediatric nurse for 10 years and have spent the last 3 years working part-time on the Special Care Baby Unit. I strongly believe that the support, care and advice that we give to parents who come with SCBU should be available to all parents. I offer breastfeeding and newborn-care support and advice within the first few days and weeks of bring your newborn home. I offer 1 hour breastfeeding sessions, as well as 3 hour sessions which will also cover the basics of newborn care such as winding, sleeping and bathing baby, as well as safety advice about how to recognise when your infant is unwell and what to do. I also have an overnight service in which I can stay at your home and give help and support throughout the night with your newborn.

1 hour session - £40 (+ travel expenses over 10 miles)
3 hour sessions - £100
Overnight session 9pm-7am - £250

Yes! This!

Not only do these products go against safe sleep advice and could put your baby at risk, I am really passionate about going back to basics with newborn babies! There are so many products out there, and so many new parents spend thousands on the things that social media and advertising companies convince you that you need.

I may do a reel or post sometime on the things I would and would not recommend for newborn babies.

When people find out that I work as a nurse in the neonatal unit, many people tell me their stories of their own baby, or grandbaby that was in the neonatal unit - some recently, other 30 years ago.

This year World Prematurity Day is shining a light on
Life on the neonatal unit will affect everyone in different ways, and the impact of having a premature or sick baby can be felt for years afterwards.

I would love to hear about your whether recent or years ago. This is a time for you to share, have your feelings heard and shine a light on the mental health and wellbeing of parents with babies in neonatal care.

Hi,

I have expanded my services to include support and assistance in the evenings and overnight, when caring for your newborn can feel overwhelming, exhausting and lonely. I strongly believe in 'the village' and that no one should have to struggle or feel alone in the early days of motherhood.

This support can be whatever you need it to be, but some examples of the support I can offer include:
- Support with feeding and newborn care in the 'witching hours', when your baby may be cluster feeding and unsettled.
- Support with newborn care and feeding during the night to allow new parents to catch up on some sleep and feel ready for the next day
- Caring for siblings, including helping to get them dinner and put them to bed while you care for your newborn.

This is a flexible service and we can discuss your needs and what would be most helpful for you.

If you are interested in this service, or would like to purchase a session as a gift for a loved one please sent me a message or email at thevillagenurse@outlook.com
