💀 Happy Day of the Dead! 💀

I thought it would be apropos to finally make a post today after such a very long silence... Día de los Mu***os is a celebration of loved ones who have died. These are happy celebrations and are not macabre, but are rather joyous and oftentimes humorous. So, consider this a message from the beyond... I am back!! 🤩

My bones 🦴 are healed and I am back on the mat teaching at Wye Leisure and Holmer Park. I have been back for a month or so, but I have been finding my feet (so to speak) again after my injury. Hope to see you soon!!

PS- I hope you can take a moment out of your day today to remember someone lovely who is no longer with you, with a funny memory and I hope it makes you smile 💀

I’m afraid I’m out of commission for a bit!

I broke my ankle over the weekend- having the BEST time rollerskating with my daughter. We’ve been skating together for a while now and we were having a blast. One minute I was zipping around with her, the next, my toe stop got caught on something and I was down in a flash. I’ll spare you the details 🤢, but I had surgery yesterday morning. I’ve got a plate and some screws in there (heavy metal! 🤘🎸) and it’ll be some time before I can walk without assistance. I’ve had great care in the hospital and I hope to be home soon.

Things don’t always go according to plan.

BUT- as silly as this sounds, I’m so glad we do lots of crazy balances in class! I’ll be on one leg for a while now and I can tell you it really does help.

Big hugs 🤩

I've been snoozing on the social media front again, I know. It's not my strong suit (which is a bit silly considering I wrote my master's dissertation on it 🙄). I am definitely still here and teaching hatha flow at Wye Leisure and Holmer Park. I've put my Castle Green Pavilion classes on hold for the time being to give myself a little breathing room. Sending out love, happy vibes, and lots of hippy skippy goodness 🤩

So things have been pretty full-on these past few months. I had to let some things slide and social media was the first to go. I’m still here and I do apologise for the silence.

My Wye Leisure classes and Holmer Park classes run through this week and then I’m back in January. Castle Green classes will resume in January as well. I can’t wait to be back with you all. 🤩

In the meantime, I’ll leave you with my wish for you at this time of year and always. ✌️ ❤️ 😊 🎄

I’m still here! I just took a snooze 😴 on the social media front recently.

There is loads I’d love to share online, but I’ve been struggling with exactly what I’d like to say. And how I’d like to come across. To give you a better feel for what a class with me might be like.

And scrolling through my past posts probably don’t give a cohesive impression. It’s definitely a work in progress. I’d like to think it’s a slow burn 🔥

So, here goes. What I aim for is for you to feel really great after class- that you feel like you’ve taken an hour for yourself, you’ve used all parts of your body and feel lengthened, loose, refreshed, revived or relaxed and that the feeling resonates long after your session on the mat ends.

I don’t take myself too seriously and sometimes giggle at myself when I’m teaching. I try to encourage you to feel at ease and to lose yourself in the class to try and get the most out of it. For you. Not to nail a perfect pose or push yourself beyond your limits, but to do exactly what feels great for you in that given moment. Our lives are so bonkers and busy, it is so unbelievably easy to forget to take a moment, pause and to take care of ourselves. And that is what I hope to help you do. And maybe have a little fun, too. 😊

Oh this is so not me…

Ok it literally IS me, but doing yoga poses on a beach isn’t *me*. I’m not an instagrammy person. I’m generally pretty private and I hardly post anything on my personal pages. I know many people share all the time, especially those promoting their businesses, but this still feels awkward. And a bit weird. Seeing me on here. Looking like this is what I do all the time. 😬

All that being said, I’m back from our camping adventures in Cornwall. Although we won’t be on a beach 🏝, I’d love for you to join me at Castle Green Pavilion on Tuesdays at 9:30am for some yoga. 🤩

there was an old lady who swallowed a 🪰…

It was a lovely sunshiny day last week when it was time for my zoom class. I thought it would be a fabulous idea to teach outside and enjoy the sunshine in the garden.

Well. When I transitioned from the pose on top to the one below, a little bit of winged protein made it’s way down the old windpipe. 😳 Delicious. 🤢 🤣

It made for a very entertaining rest of class. Complete with a cameo from our favourite neighbourhood cat, Misty. 🐈

May your summer be filled with sunshine inside and out. See you on your mat soon! 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

🙏 N A M A S T E 🙏

I’m a white American (and now also British! yeah citizenship!) yoga teacher. I was taught Namaste means “the light within me honors the light within you”. Which is awesome. I love that.

I’ve done a teeny bit of reading and research. It doesn’t feel as natural as it once did to close class with a traditional Hindi greeting. I really had no idea. I said it because that was what I was taught. And that’s how you end a yoga class. Right?

I know it is said in loads of classes and for many people it is right for them. And that is fantastic.

The following is taken from an NPR article which I will post in the comments. I have no idea how to “link in bio” and other insta-cool jazz like that. Hopefully this works.

———————
“The first part of namaste comes from "namaha," a Sanskrit verb that originally meant "to bend." Deshpande says, "Bending is a sign of submission to authority or showing some respect to some superior entity." Over time, "namaha" went from meaning "to bend" to meaning "salutations" or "greetings."

The "te" in namaste means "to you," Deshpande says. So all together, namaste literally means "greetings to you." In the Vedas, namaste mostly occurs as a salutation to a divinity.

But the use and meaning have evolved. Today, among Hindi speakers throughout the world, namaste is a simple greeting to say hello. It's often used in more formal situations, like when addressing someone older or someone you don't know well. But that's all it means — hello.”
———————

This is a *WAY oversimplified* post, but I just wanted to let you know that you will hear something a little different at the end of class with me… expressing gratitude for sharing your practice or something along those lines.

Be sweet and see you on your mat soon 🤩 🙏 😉
