We are delighted to have been awarded Regional Runner Up at The People's Awards which are run by The Natural Death Centre (Association of Natural Burial Grounds-ANBG)

What are the awards? πŸ‘‰ The People’s Awards celebrate the individuals behind the service - the care they give, the personal touches they bring, and the meaningful impact natural burial ground staff have on the families who choose to hold a funeral there.

The feedback forms which families send back after a funeral are scrutinised by the trustees and staff of the NDC. The results are logged and thoroughly analysed, and a winner and a close runner up in each of the eight qualifying regions across the UK are identified.

Year after year families who have had a funeral at Humber Woodland take time to give their feedback and leave comments about their experience. We are so grateful to all those who take the time to do this, we really do appreciate it. We're delighted with our award! 🀩

🌳 We are in the process of planting this season's trees. We have been using FertileFibre peat-free compost, coir and more Peat Free Compost to give these trees a good start! This compost is from a local Herefordshire firm and available to buy online for delivery or collection.

The benefits of this peat-free compost:
Includes slow-release nutrients
Gives strong growth
Soil Association permitted product
Contains certified organic coir
100% peat-free multipurpose compost
No green waste

If you are looking for a peat free compost for your gardens in 2026, this is a great option!

🌳🌳 Where possible this year, we are planting tree whips. A tree whip is a young, slender, usually unbranched tree that resembles a single straight stem and is ideal for developing strong root systems.

We experienced a challenging growing season in 2025, with an exceptionally dry summer that resulted in the loss of several trees. By planting whips, we increase the likelihood of successful establishment, as they are highly resilient and support better long-term growth through the development of strong root systems. πŸ’š

Today, we were joined by lots of lovely members of our Humber Woodland family, who came along to make their loved ones an environmentally friendly Christmas wreath.πŸŽ„

Thank you to all those who came and supported us and our chosen charity 'Hereford Open Door'*. We raised a fantastic Β£300 for them! It was so nice to see and to chat to so many of you, it is always a super day where everyone supports each other, all the wreaths were beautiful and unique.πŸ’š

Big thank you to Shirley and Carol for all their help again! Also to Steph from Wegnalls Willow for the willow wreaths (a rather last minute order).

We were delighted that Kate from Cherished Funerals celebrant Fiona could join us too.

We thank you for your support with only bringing environmentally friendly wreaths to Humber, we want to reduce our 'waste to landfill' to zero where possible.

*Hereford Open Door is a local independent charity. who provide a hot breakfast and a packed lunch to the homeless and people in need, including those in temporary or sub-standard accommodation, and somewhere where people can meet their friends in a friendly welcoming environment.
