The Department of Health recommends the following:
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women should have a supplement of 10 micrograms of Vitamin D a day.
- Babies up to the age of 1 year should have a supplement of 8.5 to 10 micrograms of vitamin D a day if they are receiving less than less than 500ml (about a pint) of infant formula a day, as infant formula is already fortified with vitamin D.
- Children aged 1 to 4 years old should be given a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms of vitamin D throughout the year.
- You can buy vitamin D supplements or vitamin drops containing vitamin D (for under 5s) at most pharmacies and supermarkets.
- Women and children who qualify for the Healthy Start scheme can get free supplements containing vitamin D. https://www.healthystart.nhs.uk/getting-vitamins/

Babies under 12 months don’t need snacks - milk feeds are enough to keep them satisfied between meals.
7
From 12 months, you can start offering 2 healthy snacks a day, like fruit and plain yoghurt.

Try to avoid shop-bought biscuits, rusks, and packaged “baby snacks”, they’re often high in sugar and not needed. Keep it simple and natural 💛
