St Michael's Hospice - Hereford

St Michael's Hospice - Hereford St Michael's Hospice is an independent charity that exists to help, support and care for patients

As a charity, we need to raise over ยฃ5.8 million a year to ensure we can continue to provide our care and support for free. 74% of this funding comes from our local community through donations and fundraising events. Our multi-disciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, complementary therapists, social workers, chaplains and counsellors. Specialist Hospic

e staff work together and often in partnership with the NHS to relieve patientsโ€™ symptoms, control their pain and help them to live well until the end of life. We provide Inpatient services, hospice daycare and support for patients in a range of settings, including their homes. We are also there to ensure loved ones have access to the appropriate care and support they need to cope with the complex feelings and lifestyle changes caused by a terminal illness. Supporting your Hospice
St Michaelโ€™s Hospice provides all its care free of charge to patients, their families and carers. This care is made possible by supporters taking part in fundraising events, playing our lottery, shopping at our retail outlets, making charitable donations and leaving gifts in their wills.

We love Forget-me-nots here at St Michaelโ€™s ๐Ÿ’™

Theyโ€™ve always felt like such a simple, gentle way to remember someone, which is why this year, weโ€™re doing something a little special with them.

For the first time, weโ€™ll be creating an outdoor display at Hereford Cathedral from 22-30 May, made up of Forget-me-nots dedicated to people who are loved and remembered.

Itโ€™s something weโ€™ve been working on with the support of Bayley Brothers, who shared with us that supporting the appeal is their way of โ€œgiving back to an organisation that embodies the same compassion and dignityโ€ they aim to offer families every day.

Here at St Michaelโ€™s, weโ€™re so proud of our wonderful community ๐Ÿ’™

Not only do you help us thrive through your unwavering generosity, but you also pull together when times are tough.

Thereโ€™s no better example of this than Simon from Studio 100 Hereford who gave up his time free of charge to visit one of our inpatients to ensure she received a special tattoo, along with other members of her family.

Simon didnโ€™t want paying - he just asked for a donation to be made to St Michaelโ€™s.

What an incredible gesture which made one family very, very happy.

Thank you so much, Simon! ๐Ÿ’™

We're sure many of you will have seen the fire that broke out last night at the garage next to our shop in Cantilupe Road in Ross on Wye.

We're pleased to report that everyone got out the building safely. Special thanks to our Shop Manager, Linda and the team for their continued commitment and resilience.

Sadly, we've had to temporarily close the Cantilupe Road site until it can be assessed by the insurers and relevant experts. The shop has undergone significant smoke and water damage so it's the safest thing to do for the team and for customers.

A big shout out to the Fire Crew attending last night and everyone in the community who have offered us and neighbouring businesses kind words.

In the meantime, you can still visit our other hospice shops in Ross. The Gloucester Road shop will open tomorrow and Alton Road Home and Living will be back open from Monday.

As soon as we have more news on our Cantilupe shop we will let you know!

Some stories stay with you long after you hear them ๐Ÿ’™

Last year, we shared a deeply moving video featuring Celia and her daughter Roz, as they reflected on the care Celiaโ€™s daughter Caro received at St Michaelโ€™s Hospice, and how they chose to honour her memory by taking on the Camino Challenge together.

Their journey was one of love, remembrance, strength, and connection, a beautiful tribute to someone so dearly missed.

If you havenโ€™t seen it yet, or would like to revisit it, you can watch the video here:

And this year, weโ€™re inviting supporters to take on a brand new challengeโ€ฆ the Conquer Indian Himalayas Challenge ๐Ÿ”๏ธ Visit our website to find out more.

A powerful way to honour loved ones, create memories, and help raise vital funds so we can continue providing compassionate care to families across our community.

โ€œI just didnโ€™t think life could be like this againโ€ฆโ€ ๐Ÿ’™

When Melanie and Matt first met at a Christmas lunch for those experiencing the loss of a loved one, neither of them could have imagined what the future might hold.

Melanieโ€™s husband, Russell, and Mattโ€™s wife, Debbie, had both been cared for at St Michael's Hospice. Their shared experience of loss brought them to the same table, but it also quietly marked the beginning of something new.

Since that day, Melanie and Matt have found love together. A reminder that even in the deepest grief, connection, hope, and new beginnings can still be found.

St Michaelโ€™s will always hold a special place in their hearts, not only for the care their loved ones received, but for bringing them together in a way they never expected.

Our hospice is about more than just care โ€” itโ€™s about bringing people together. Have you met someone new through our services, care, or at an event? If so, tag them below.

Thereโ€™s something really special about stepping into a garden that feels like itโ€™s been gently brought back to life ๐Ÿ’›

Next Tuesday, weโ€™re delighted to be opening the gates to The Vern for a very special Open Garden, and weโ€™d love you to be part of it. Originally designed by renowned landscape designer Percy Cane a century ago, this beautiful historic garden has been lovingly restored since 2018, with so many peaceful spaces waiting to be explored.

From the flourishing Walled Garden filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, to the elegant rose-filled Sunken Garden, winding woodland walks, ancient oaks, and views across Dinmore Hill and the River Lugg, it really is a place to slow down and soak it all in ๐ŸŒฟ

Just a gentle reminder that this is a pre-booked only event, so please do make sure youโ€™ve reserved your place before coming along.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Have you visited The Vern before, or are you joining us next Tuesday? Weโ€™d love to hear from you in the comments.

Our Open Garden Programme is kindly sponsored by Radbournes

We couldnโ€™t do it without you ๐Ÿ’™

Last month, our Big Spring Walk raised an incredible ยฃ14,000+ and it simply wouldnโ€™t have been possible without the amazing support of our sponsors Hsl Compliance Ltd.

Not only did they sponsor the event, but their team, along with family members and even a few four-legged friends ๐Ÿพ came along on the day to walk with us and be part of something really special.

Itโ€™s moments like these that show what community truly means. Businesses and people coming together, side by side, to support the care we provide at St Michael's Hospice.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Were you part of the Big Spring Walk last month? Let us know, and feel free to tag anyone you walked with!

When youโ€™re on the lookout for wonderful fundraising storiesโ€ฆ Kew Emma Harris.

Emma completed the Kew Half Marathon, raising over ยฃ650 for St Michaelโ€™s.

Emma has a special link to us as her nan spent her final days at the Hospice in 2024. Meanwhile, her Uncle Simon was also supported as an outpatient by St Michael's before he passed away last year, and her Auntie Claire has benefited from our bereavement support.
