Marches Counselling Service

Marches Counselling Service A charity providing professional, confidential and affordable counselling and psychotherapy service for people in Herefordshire.

We don't have a waiting list and match client to counsellor. We also offer a professional network group for therapists. Marches Counselling Service is a charity that provides affordable, flexible and ethical support to adults in Herefordshire who are struggling with life issues. We provide a safe place to talk: daytimes, evenings and even Saturdays. People can contact us directly to arrange an initial appointment of up to 90minutes, ongoing sessions are agreed at that meeting, if counselling is the right way forward. As Hereford is a small city, we do not offer a drop-in service, but arrange appointments in advance to preserve privacy and anonymity. Our office is staffed Mondays – Fridays between 10am – 1pm. Outside of those hours people can leave a message on our confidential telephone answer machine.

Are their a lot of things in your life that drain you? Do they constantly deplete you of energy, are exhausting but not meaningful, unfulfilling, or no longer enjoyable? If so, it may be time to reassess their role in your life or at least set some boundaries to get a balance for what makes you feel good, what matters to you and what you have to do.

Activities and connections should fuel you, give your energy, nourishment, growth, make you feel good, being a healthy, sustainable part of your life.

Do you need help to explore and even reassess your relationships, friendships, job, events you say yes to but don't want to attend or other activities which affect you negatively? Do you need set better boundaries? Counselling may help.

Carl Rogers, an American psychologist said “a person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity; a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits.”

In other words, a person is not static, but forever changing, continually growing and developing, influenced by their interactions with others and their experiences. Sometimes we set up barriers, become rigid in our behaviour, interpretations and reactions to others. Counselling can help us step outside of those, relook at ourselves and be more open to experience what is and learn from those who are around us.

Did you know that we work in partnership with many local businesses?

One of those, Wye Valley Brewery, said MCS “our staff that have used Marches Counselling Service have found their approach and support to be positive and helpful. This in turn has ensured that staff feel more comfortable in their roles at work and less isolated. Mental health can be an ongoing issue for some individuals, and I firmly believe that staff at Marches Counselling have given some of our employees the tools so their day to days lives are more manageable."

When you look in the mirror or think about yourself, are you positive or negative? Do you criticise yourself? Do you wonder what the point is? Tell yourself you'll never do x/y/z right? Strive for perfection and give up if you can't achieve it? Do you self-sabotage?
Constantly telling yourself these things can be very harmful, hindering you from moving forward, achieving your goals, even small ones. Why do you put yourself down? What are you afraid of? If it's failure, what would that look like and is it so bad? What have you experienced that makes you feel that way? Would it be helpful to revisit that with a professional?

We see clients of all ages from 18 upwards but it's interesting that some key times for initiating counselling with us are when big birthday's are coming up. Mainly around 60 or 40, then around 30. Perhaps it's a time many of us re-evalute where we are in life, what we are achieving or haven't and our birthday acts as a reminder or a time to question whether we've moved on from our issues, are enjoying life or are still letting our issues and concerns affect our life too much.

We are a charity providing affordable, professional, confidential counselling.
We don't have a waiting list or limit the number of sessions you attend.

When you initiate counselling with us, your first appointment is an assessment. At that we discuss your issues and concerns from which we can work out which therapeutic approach and which of our 20 counsellors is the best fit for you. It's important that you have the right counsellor for you. On the rare occasion a a client doesn't work well with their particular counsellor, we are happy to reassign to another therapist.

Did you know that we work in partnership with many local businesses?

One of those, Wye Valley Brewery, said MCS “bridge the gap for staff who need additional support. We initiate the introduction to Marches and will cover and assessment and if required six counselling sessions. If it is realised that more sessions are required, then Marches will keep us updated of progress and we will sometimes assist with extra costs. At all times of the process Marches staff are extremely professional and ensure that at no stage any information pertaining to the staff member is divulged”.
