Marches Counselling Service

Marches Counselling Service A charity providing professional, confidential and affordable counselling and psychotherapy service for people in Herefordshire.

We don't have a waiting list and match client to counsellor. We also offer a professional membership group for therapists. Marches Counselling Service is a charity that provides affordable, flexible and ethical support to adults in Herefordshire who are struggling with life issues. We provide a safe place to talk: daytimes, evenings and even Saturdays. People can contact us directly to arrange an initial appointment of up to 90minutes, ongoing sessions are agreed at that meeting, if counselling is the right way forward. As Hereford is a small city, we do not offer a drop-in service, but arrange appointments in advance to preserve privacy and anonymity. Our office is staffed Mondays – Fridays between 10am – 1pm. Outside of those hours people can leave a message on our confidential telephone answer machine.

Our next Reflective Practice Group meets on 1st October 7-8 p.m. at our offices in Hereford. The topic is Love, Lust and Attraction.

The group is for counsellors and psychotherapists.

This group is a supportive space to think about practice issues and experiences in a community of counsellors and psychotherapists. Together we can recognise and name the existence of different erotic presentations between therapist and clients.

The group meets every first Wednesday of the month. 7-8 p.m. Contact helenmiskin@marchescounselling.org if you are interested in knowing more or attending.

When a client finishes therapy with us, we encourage feedback on our service so we can monitor and improve how we are doing. One lovely client gave us this comment on the counselling they received with us.

We don't have a magic wand. Coming to counselling is not a quick fix and this clients comment indicates they had to put some work in too but with the help of their counsellor it paid off.

The path to better emotional wellbeing is rarely straight but takes many twists and turns, ups and downs.

It's often quite a long journey before many feel it's time to see a counsellor and then they are usually faced with hurdles like long waiting lists or availability of sessions when they themselves are available.

At Marches Counselling Service we work hard to avoid a waiting list, expanding our capacity before our counsellors are over stretched or we have to ask people to wait until one becomes available. As such, we've just taken on a several more counsellors and psychotherapists so have available sessions if you would like to get in touch.

The Monday morning blues is a common response to returning to work after a weekend off, doing what ever suits you and relaxing. Perhaps you are discontent at work, not motivated by what you do, anticipating boring tasks or long meetings or even burnt out,. Perhaps you didn't get enough sleep or rest at the weekend or had a busy weekend you don't feel you had a rest?

These are really common feelings but if the Monday morning blues stretches to every day of your working week, or even every day, perhaps you need professional help?

If you are struggling, we are a charity which aims to provide affordable, confidential counselling. We don't have a waiting list or limit the number of sessions a client attends. Hello,

I’m Katrina, recently appointed Service Director at Marches Counselling Service.

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a few thoughts with our social media community.

I’m excited to begin this new chapter with MCS, where person-centred support is at the heart of everything we do. My passion lies in helping people feel truly seen, supported, and understood, not just in the counselling room, but in how we design and deliver our services across the board.

I believe in building inclusive, community-rooted support that evolves with the people it serves. Whether it’s co-producing new ideas with our team or improving access to therapy, I’m committed to ensuring our services reflect the real lives and needs of those who use them and building sustainable services.

Looking forward to the journey ahead and to working alongside such a dedicated and compassionate team.
