💛 Boundaries & Emotional Intimacy – For women wanting to deepen connections while maintaining a strong sense of self.

The aim of counselling is to gain a greater understanding of our own complex and ever-changing network of thoughts, emotions, and filters of perception. Through reflection and being gently challenged, our actions become more conscious, not just habitual reactions. The impact of our past on our present is not set in stone. Through exploration of our inner selves and our relationships, we have the possibility of change.

We begin life in symbiosis with our mother, a natural stage that blurs boundaries and ensures the mother responds to the child's needs. As we grow, we need our mother to continue attune to our needs, including our needs for her to begin to LET US GO. This means letting go of her identification with us as an extension to herself. Traditional psychoanalysis views such merging as harmful, preventing healthy development and separation. In mother-daughter relationships, enmeshment hinders the daughter's growth and individuality.

Mutuality, a healthier connection, respects differences and values the other's wholeness and subjective experience. It involves empathy and receptivity while allowing for healthy separateness.

A mother who is adequately satisfied in her own life, can better support her daughter's independence, while an unsatisfied mother may struggle to relinquish their symbiotic bond at the right time.
