Deep Tissue Massage Therapy is a modality of therapeutic massage that is used to soften, lengthen, and release holding patterns in the body, thus altering the structural alignment. The goal of a Deep Tissue Massage Therapist, is: "to understand of the layers of the body, and the ability to work with the tissue in these layers to relax, lengthen, and release holding patterns in the most effective and energy efficient ways possible.”
This is very different than what most people perceive or understand Deep Tissue Massage to be. It’s not about the “no pain, no gain” approach, although there is less of an emphasis on pleasure and more of an emphasis on altering structural alignment and muscle restriction. Not to say it’s not pleasurable or relaxing. Most clients, once they are familiar with Deep Tissue Massage, prefer the work because of the lasting effects and the alleviation of pain that it provides. The primary benefits of Deep Tissue Massage include:

Improved posture
Greater flexibility
Improved range of motion
Increased lymph movement
Decreased pain
Better circulation

The spectrum of Deep Tissue Massage is broad and varies depending on the goals and intentions the Deep Tissue Massage Therapist establishes with the client. The focus and pace required--which is much slower with clear, specific intentions--leaves the client feeling refreshed and invigorated. Everyone from young to old can benefit from the lasting effects it provides. And athletes in particular benefit tremendously from Deep Tissue Massage. I commonly treat clients using Deep Tissue Massage routines I have specifically created for particular injuries. These routines address certain conditions such asTennis Elbow, Piriformis Syndrome, Sciatica, Plantar Fascilitis, Achilles Tendonitis, Knee Ligament Damage,Whiplash, Multiple Schlerosis and others. Utilizing techniques such as Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular and Active Release Techniques have been extremely effective in treating and relieving these common conditions.

Among the multifactorial causes of flexion contracture before and after knee arthroplasty, no studies to date have documented the role of arthrogenic muscle inhibition (AMI); this was the first study to investigate this complication in this patient population.
This phenomenon is a protective mechanism triggered by the injury to the periarticular muscles or joint structures that protects the muscles from increased stress after injuries. The activation of inhibitory interneurons reduces the efficiency of motor neuron pool recruitment, thereby decreasing muscle strength. The response of sensory receptors is altered, with profound effects on excitability in the primary motor cortex associated with a spinal reflex that typically produces a pattern of flexor facilitation and extensor inhibition .

🏅Should Olympic rules ban transgender women from female events?

The IOC think so. Reports indicate that they plan to bar transgender women from female events across all sports.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is considering a sweeping policy shift that could bar transgender women from competing in female categories across all Olympic sports.

Under the leadership of newly elected president Kirsty Coventry, the IOC is seeking to create a uniform approach to gender eligibility, citing new scientific findings that highlight the permanent physical advantages retained by individuals who undergo male puberty.

This move follows controversy at the 2024 Paris Olympics and mirrors decisions already taken by several international sports federations.

Coventry, who assumed the presidency in June, quickly initiated working groups to address major policy areas, including the protection of female sport.

While no official ruling has been made, sources indicate the IOC may finalize the ban at its 145th Session in Milan ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Dr. Jane Thornton, the IOC’s director of health, medicine, and science, recently told members that hormone therapy cannot fully negate the physiological advantages conferred by male puberty, sparking momentum toward a categorical ban.

The issue gained renewed urgency after the eligibility of two female boxers came under scrutiny despite no confirmed transgender status, underscoring the growing pressure on sports bodies to define clear and consistent standards. If enacted, this would mark a significant policy shift in the ongoing global debate over fairness and inclusion in women’s sports.
