If you’re in an abusive relationship in the UK, you can apply for a non‑molestation order or an occupation order through the Family Court. It’s completely free to apply, and you don’t need a solicitor (though legal aid is available if you do want one).
You can apply using Form FL401 here:

Or use the free online tool CourtNav to help you complete it:

An occupation order can legally remove someone who is being abusive from your home or stop them coming near it—even if their name is on the mortgage or tenancy. The court looks at your right to be safe, not just who legally owns the property. You can also apply if the home is only in their name, or even if you’re not on the tenancy at all.
If the order is broken, it becomes a criminal offence and the police can arrest them. You can also apply for an emergency “without notice” order if you’re in immediate danger, meaning the person won’t know about it until it’s granted.
You do have rights, and you can get protection. Women’s Aid, Refuge, and Citizens Advice can help guide you through the process if needed.
