I’ve finally shut the doors on my final clinic in Herne Bay.

It has been an emotional few weeks, saying goodbye to all my incredible loyal clients. Although I know I leave them in a good place rehab wise, I’ll surely miss seeing them in clinic.

A huge thanks goes to for the use of your clinic space. I could not have done it without you

More thanks to . Without your encouragement GoMotion probably would not exist. I can’t thank you enough for the support you have given me.

Finally from me. It has been an honour to serve Herne Bay, and I can’t be more proud of what we have achieved. We move on to the next chapter and will be appearing in Somerset at some point. I will look forward to visiting soon, I have running and triathlon events here so I’m sure I’ll see lots of you here.

I wish you all the very best but keep in touch for future updates.

If youve made it this far, I’m shedding a few tears but I’m not crying you are!

Lots of love

Clinic Update!

It has been quite a year for me personally with lots of positive change. There is more big change that is coming up, I have accepted a job back in Somerset!

Although this is a very exciting opportunity for me, it does mean however that I will be leaving Herne Bay and Kent in the near future. This inevitably means that GoMotion will also be relocating to the south west.

I have a few weeks until we close, and appointments available for follow ups only. I look forward to seeing everyone again before I leave, thank you all for your support during my time here.

Lots of love

I’m very lucky to have secured a fundraising spot with Prostate Cancer to run Brighton Marathon on 6th April!!

This is a fantastic opportunity to give back to a brilliant charity that supports men and their families going through this. I suspect most people now know or know of someone who has a cancer story which is quite a sobering thought. However, doing challenges like this and spreading the word about prostate cancer might just save a life, who knows. I’ll be posting more direct from prostate cancer themselves, updates on my training and fundraising as we go….9 weeks to go 😆

GoMotion Physio 1 year old!

When I started out, I had absolutely no idea how this idea would turn out, no real business experience but with hard work and an underlying passion for helping people, I’m so proud of where GoMotion has got to.

GoMotion Physio doesn’t work without my incredible clients, their trust in me to help them makes it all worth while!

A big thanks to everyone who has recommended me, for those people I am truly grateful, your kind words are really humbling.

And so to the future. I’m looking to broaden the services I can offer, a few ideas in the pipeline and I’ll be trying to post a bit more on socials for some self-help and myth busting info. For now, I’ll have a couple of beers to celebrate, and I look forward to seeing you in clinic or elsewhere around Herne Bay.

Lots of love and appreciation

Mike

*Real Case Study Update*
Well me….

The initial back pain I had was improving for 2 weeks then a run of poor sleep, stress and increase in alcohol intake caused a change in symptoms with pain shooting into my leg. Difficultly weight bearing, walking very lopsided, numbness and very severe pain at night!

After a pretty miserable 2 weeks things started to improve, and now back to work, clinic back up and running and feeling more positive. I’ll be doing another post on the specifics, how you can help your self up next.

30 mins on the turbo felt pretty good, kept it very easy, low watts, low HR. Great to get the legs moving again and minimal pain at the time, wait and see how the rest of the day and night goes!

I hurt my back.
This is why I’m looking sad with half drunk litre of beer, as I was having a nice time on holiday
I was going up a steady incline, lost focus ended up skidding on some gravel, became unclipped and landing on my extended leg meant I have irritated my previously problematic disc.
(Brief history - disc bulge 2020 causing left side sciatica and 2 episodes of acute back pain since)
So what to do…..
Management:
Coast back home, via pharmacist - strongest antiinflammatory they could give me
Initially avoid pain provocations movements - for me bending forwards
Heat/ice pack - what ever feels good
Gentle movements in comfortable ranges
Changing posture regularly- stand sit lie walk but not for too long
Check for red flags - saddle numbness, bladder and bowel changes
Plan:
Optimise recovery - attempt to have good sleep
Refuel post ride
Continue gentle movements
Manage busy day tomorrow
Expect some pain - I’ve got an acute injury so this is to be expected
Know that with good management it will get better - these things need time.
Massage, mobilisations, acupuncture, gentle exercise, medication may all help.
Long term:
It will get better.
Learnings:
Training load very inconsistent and big spikes over the last few months
Fatigue from the ride before and the heat!
Fuelling - not ideal yesterday, needed more electrolytes
Sleep quality, diet.
Stress levels and psychological state over the last few months

Taking a week out of clinic to explore what Girona has to offer. Turns out it’s mega cycling round here which is handy! Not such a ‘relaxing break’ but good to recharge the mental batteries if not the physical ones!
Don’t worry back next week, we have a few gaps next Monday, check online for full availability

Winter Green Man Ultra marathon complete ✔️😁
This was my first 45 mile ultra marathon, and boy did it deliver. Snow. Wind. Rain. Hip high floods, and quagmire fields. But a hell of a day and a great sense of achievement.

What have I learnt?
Training makes things a lot easier. My training plan was hampered by lack of time, acute onset of back pain, and big developments in clinic. So in truth I was very undercooked before going into this race. I tell all my patients that a progressive training programme is vital to reduce injury risk etc. clearly didn’t apply that here.
However. Very strict pacing, excellent nutrition (probably my best ever) and some endurance resilience left int he bank from IM seemed to help.
Having the low points is quite normal. You can train your resilience over time. Your body will adapt and has incredible ways to adapt even mid race. The mandatory muddy Ice bath may have helped.

In conclusion with strict pacing strategies, good base of resilience, individual nutrition plan I think you can achieve a great deal. Then come and see me to patch you up for the next race.
