Around 1 in every 800 babies will be born with Down syndrome. Down syndrome occurs naturally – there is no known cause.

Most people have 23 pairs of chromosomes – 46 in total. People with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome added onto the 21st pair – 47 in total.

Chromosomes act like an instruction manual that defines how our bodies look and how they work.

Learn more about Down Syndrome and how it occurs. There is a informative resource hub on the link below.

This Easter, we will be gathering donations for Rainbow Ward, Margate Hospital, as we did last year.

We invite any patients who wish to contribute an extra egg from their shopping to drop it off at one of our three surgeries. All donations will be delivered to the hospital ward at the end of the month.

Thank you for helping to make Easter special for the children and staff on Rainbow Ward.

We are taking on new patients

Hi everyone, during the last two years there has been a lot of development at the practice. In April 2018 St Anne’s Surgery and Beltinge & Reculver Surgery merged with William Street and Hersden Surgery to become the Heron Medical Practice.

The Practice has changed beyond recognition across the clinical teams and non-clinical teams. We have employed lots of different allied health professionals including advanced nurse practitioners who can prescribe and refer like a GP, we have paramedics who can visit you at home, we have pharmacists who can ensure that you are on the most effective medication regimes for you.

We have developed a brand new nursing team who each have their own specialities as well as all of them doing the general nursing duties; these specialities include Diabetes care, respiratory care, mental health and dementia care, warfarin management and women’s health with lots more service in development.

We have a clinical team that meets weekly to discuss patients that require a bit more specialist care than normal with a multidisciplinary team of GPs, Nurses, Social Care and Voluntary Services.
