Labour and birth preparation acupuncture slots are now open for due dates in August and September!

This is a reminder not to leave booking in too late, especially if you’re being nudged towards induction and you really don’t want one (most women, funnily enough), or you’re hoping for a vbac.

If your baby’s breech then I’ll need to see you at 34 weeks while your baby is still small enough to turn with acu and moxa.

The question I was asked most at the pregnancy fair a couple of weeks ago was whether I can work with you for natural induction - yes I can and it’s amazing - see the next slide for a recent review from a happy mum!

Just back from our Hertford pregnancy fair this morning organised by the wonderful Midwife Meg .and.baby - I completely forgot to take any photos - but there was such a great crowd who were a joy to chat to, and some of my very lovely patients popped by - one lady who I saw for natural induction 2 weeks ago had her baby the day after and brought her in this morning for a cuddle 💕. So great to connect with other local women led businesses too!

Hi, if you’re new here - I thought I’d do a little reintroduction as it’s been a while.

I’m Kerry, a licensed acupuncturist based in Hertford town centre.

I offer specialist acupuncture for women navigating fertility challenges. I also support pregnancy and labour.

Many of the women who come to see me are already going through something difficult and often I’m their last resort.

It can be a recent loss, an IVF cycle that didn’t work, or the growing fear that time is running out and that answers are hard to find. Sometimes it’s the results of a low AMH test or a cycle that’s MIA that brings people to me.

Another study showing how including acupuncture with a standard IVF protocol can massively improve your chances of success.

Here’s what it says:

164 women with a history of recurrent implantation failure (in 3 or more cycles) were divided into 2 groups - half had acupuncture and ivf treatment the rest had only ivf treatment.

The acupuncture group were shown to have:

- thicker endometrial lining

- better structure of lining for implantation

- enhanced endometrial receptivity because of better blood flow

- clinical pregnancy rates of 47.56% compared to 29.26% in the non-acu group

- embryo implantation of 35.42% vs 20.13% in the non acu group

- early miscarriage of 5.13% vs 16.67%

I see people who’ve been trying for years thinking it’s the woman’s problem when it was male factor all along. It’s so sad and causes so much heartbreak because no one knows it’s so common.

If I wanted to know what I should take that would ACTUALLY make a difference to my reproductive health, these are the ones.

I see people taking the high street brand for preconception and I also see people taking expensive monthly subscription supplements.

The one thing they have in common is they contain tiny amounts of active ingredients based on the rda but it’s not enough when you’re struggling with fertility.

So we don’t guess - we test where we need to and we take it step by step while we monitor how you feel and what messages your body sends us.

Labour preparation acupuncture begins from 36 weeks of pregnancy.
Weekly treatments continue until you’re full term and if you’re overdue or advised to have induction we’ll incorporate that into our plan and I can see you twice weekly.

Acupuncture has so many benefits - it enhances your own natural pain relief, primes oxytocin stimulation, aids cervical ripening, and relaxes the pelvis ready for birth.

It can also:
- reduce your chances of induction
- reduce the use of epidurals
- give you a lower likelihood of emergency c-section
- shorten the length of labour
- improve the likelihood you’ll have a vaginal birth

🌟This news has absolutely made my week. We’ve worked for 8 months to get this pregnancy. 🌟
When my client came to me in February this year she’d been trying to conceive for 18 months and had only had basic hormone testing done.
She’d been told everything was completely normal but was still convinced something ‘didn’t feel right’.

She appeared to be ovulating regularly but her period was coming just 4 days later so we worked on lengthening her luteal phase with weekly acupuncture and I referred her for cycle scanning to check ovulation was definitely happening, which it was.
She had a couple of small polyps - we were told these were small and unlikely to cause a problem so we left them with the intention of dealing with them later if needed.
We repeated all her hormone testing and also her thyroid function, which was borderline - again we ‘parked’ the thyroid to retest later. We refined her supplements and made some good changes to her nutrition to support her cycle.

We tested and then dealt with her very high levels of vaginal ureaplasma with a course of antibiotics from her GP and then followed up with targeted vaginal probiotics.
Alongside this we tested her partner’s s***m DNA which came back borderline so I sent him off for a consultation with a fertility urologist who advised he had a small varicocele (testicular varicose vein) but not to treat as it was within specified limits (these limits vary slightly amongst clinicians). We decided to monitor his s***m dna again after 8 weeks.
Gradually luteal phase temperatures began to rise and sustain for longer. I still felt they weren’t consistently high enough for pregnancy so referred her last month for a trial of 3 months’ progesterone supplementation - and now here we are today with a positive pregnancy test ❤️

I can’t guarantee that you will get pregnant if you choose to work with me, but I can 💯promise that I’ll leave no stone unturned to find out what’s stopping you getting or staying pregnant.
