Traditional yoga can be a bit serious for young children! That’s why we move like wiggly worms and playful meerkats. We use imagination to help children feel safe, seen, and celebrated.

In our Move & Meditate sessions, we don't just move our bodies, we listen with our hearts.

🌈 Our sound baths and rainsticks help little ones find their 'calm' in a world that can be very loud.

Our final animal-themed relaxation technique for Stress Awareness Month is The Sleeping Butterfly 🦋

This is great for: A gentle wind-down before bed or after a tantrum.

How to do it: Sit on the floor and bring the soles of your feet together so your knees drop out to the sides like wings. "Flutter" your knees gently. Then, pretend the butterfly is going to sleep - fold your body forward over your feet and rest your head down.

How it works: This is a lovely hip-opener that releases physical tension, and the folding motion feels like a big, warm hug for the nervous system.

I hope you've enjoyed learning some of these animal poses this month! If you'd like to come and join a Move and Meditate class at BEAM Hertford please do get in touch via our website www.moveandmeditate.uk

The next in our series of animal-themed relaxation techniques for Stress Awareness Month is The Buzzing Bee.

It's great for: Calming a busy, "buzzy" brain or block out loud noises.

How to do it: Sit comfortably and place your hands over your ears (or just use your fingers to gently plug them). Take a big breath in, and as you breathe out, keep your lips closed and make a long "Mmmmmm" humming sound. Feel your head and chest vibrate!

How it works: The humming sound vibrates the vagus nerve, which is like a "calm down" switch for the body. It’s also great because it physically blocks out external noise.

After a long week back at school it's time to introduce our next animal-themed relaxation technique for Stress Awareness Month - The Tall Flamingo!

What it's great for: Focusing when things feel chaotic or difficult to manage.

How to do it: Stand up tall. Fix your eyes on one tiny spot on the wall that isn't moving. Slowly lift one foot and tuck it against your other leg (like a kickstand). Reach your arms out like wings to stay steady. Switch legs and try again!

How It Works: You can’t think about your worries and balance on one leg at the same time! It forces the brain to "reset" and focus on the right now.

If your child would benefit from learning more techniques like The Tall Flamingo, why not book them in for a session with Move and Meditate? Suitable for all children up to 13, Move and Meditate is held at BEAM Hertford every Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Bookings can be made at www.moveandmeditate.uk

From the stretching cat to the hidden turtle, so much of our movement is inspired by the amazing creatures we share this planet with.

This World Earth Day, why not try your favorite animal pose outside in the garden? It’s a lovely way to help kids feel connected to the world around them.

Which animal pose are you practicing today? 🦁🦋🐢
